Being able to spawn troops in the air and insert them wherever they're needed is a pretty nice ability, and they don't need to fit a module to do it.
BTW, they're logistics dropships you're talking about. Different catagories of vehicle other than standard are specializations, not "top-end". In other words, they're not strictly better, just more specialized. They're similar to tech 2 ships in EVE. |

Well. I don't know much about EvE or Dust. But it's a Drop ship and not a Battleship. But maybe they will have a lot more variants of air vehicles later on to include some combat heavy ships.
They've already said there'll be fighters. Bombers would be cool too. |

Do you know how fighters will act for Dust? Like are they only meant for air vs air or like a air-tank
Dunno. They'll be combat aircraft, but I dunno if they'll be air superiority or what. If they are, there should be bombers too for fast surgical strikes. Maybe gunships for close air support also.
If I had to guess, though, I'd guess that they're going to be all-around combat aircraft good for taking out air or ground targets and escorting dropships and providing close air support for infantry. |

No, a force recon is completely different from a logistics dropship. That will be another specialized version. |

By 200k, I meant the ADDITIONAL 200k it costs, I don't have the game open right now but I know they're a tad over 400k a pop. On top of that, you add an additional 200-300k for modules, and you're resting at 600-700k per dropship. In case you weren't aware, dropships are just a smidge less durable than a tank. Apparently you can fly around in circles all match and survive against swarm launchers, I for one still have yet to see this, yet this goes completely against the idea of a DROP ship. No one wants to slow down to drop off and extract units because you HAVE to be moving, ALL the time, or else you die a horrible, embarassing, and costly death.
Well, inserting troops is pretty quick. Stop for just a second over the insertion point, tell the squad to jump out and they can use their inertia dampeners to land from any height. Extraction is trickier.
Yeah, as Tebow said, the Gallente one might be better for extraction from hot-zones with more long-term survivability. Also, being able to linger a bit and provide support fire for the squad after you drop them off is nice. |

That will be another specialized version. Check the name, that was the Grimesnes. That's the Gallente Logi dropship. I don't know why there's a disconnect between the role in game as compared to on the blog. If it turns out that the Grimesnes will not be the recon dropship (certainly possible) it'll probably have other bonuses, so the principle is the same.
Yeah, they may be changing names and roles, but if there is a force recon added, it should have a different role from a logistics dropship.
There should definitely be a dropship specialized in covert ops, e-war, and recon, for inserting squads behind enemy lines and whatnot. Whether they should be the same ones with a mobile CRU I'm not sure. |
