I assume this is just preliminary testing of the system. In the future I'd hope that salvage is only for the winners and isn't random, but rather based on what the enemy used in battle, or something. Either way I agree it's a bit odd for losers to get salvage. |

Salvage could run either way... something you save from being destroyed in an enemy attack is considered Salvage just as much as something that an attacker wins from the scraps on a battlefield. The key point is that something is pulled from something else that was destroyed.
in real combat both winners and losers leave a battlefield with anything they can salvage, but typically the winner gets more cause they can stay on the field longer.

Good Question, I think that since we cant sell it or refine it atm, this is just step 1 of a multi-stage salvaging mechanic release.
As part of the testing it looks like everybody and their dog is getting salvage. I hope this changes in the future. I would like to see a mechanic where we need a tool(and skills) that works something like the nanite injector - it would make salvaging a mini-profession and require decision-making and battlefield awareness - and imagine the pit fight over proto tank salvage ;) - with friendly fire tuned on, ofc! |

Except you're not looting on the fly. The looting is post-match. Being killed off and driven from the battlefield kind of makes the idea of having time to salvage stuff a bit peculiar.
More importantly, though, is that losing should not get an extra reward. Winning should have its perks. One of those perks should be free items salvaged from dead enemies. Otherwise, salvage just becomes some kind of silly gear distribution system, rather than actual spoils of war. |

Was just thinking that I would want to wire all our installations with Remote Explosives controlled by Squad/Team Leaders and ultimately the MCC Commander. Last Merc standing pulls the pin. |

nope nothing extra imo. iv'e played competetive games years ago where i've been top of the leaderboard but know full well that i've played rubbish. being toip of the leader board means nothing (to an extent) i haven't seen a game yet where the devs got the reward system right. this type of game anyway where it's not pure deathmatch.
i'd prefer team A won well played all. you suck team B try to teamplay harder next time. upload your demos so we can watch from your pov all. |

The salvage is kinda of a simbolic thing, because, really, how many times you die in a match? How many times you 'loot'? Wouldnt you lose the loot once you died?
CCP chose to not address these questions and give us a gift at the end of matches.
They should give us a "salvager beacon" of sorts, where we could loot corpses, and then "upload" the loot once a while. If you died, the enemy could loot your body and your accumulated loot. Then we place the loot in the bouoy and a drone coms down and scoop it to the mcc.
Would make more sense. |

They'll end up leaving it as-is, with losers getting salvage too. I think they want it to keep the not so great players happy, and everyone having salvage means everyone gets to use the market. The market is a big part of eve, and a major difference between dust and cod/bf.
I am fully against any active looting or salvaging mechanic. Anything that encourages people to do anything other than engage in combat or take objectives is absolutely not needed or beneficial. |
