I get a lot of conflicting chatter about mice, and the use and settings thereof. I want to get somebody to conclusively answer a few questions.
Specifically, is there a mouse I can use with the ps3 to turn the DPI up high enough to turn well enough to play the game like I want?
I have heard stories about higher end mice with software onboard that lets you set the DPI and carry these settings over to the ps3, and that makes a lot of sense. What sort of brand of mouse does this economically?
What sort of top end DPI do I need to not get circle jerked by heavy armor in a firefight with m&kb?
Specifically, I am shopping for a mouse and want to make sure I get the right one to make this playable.
Can we get any testimony about exactly what the DPI and thresholds of movement were? Was 2600 enough? Did you need 4000? |

If you turn the sensitivity up on the DS3 to 100%, and slam the stick to the side, thats how fast you can turn with a mouse. Turn speed is set to a hard cap right now, so the type of mouse you have doesn't matter. I'm using a $20 KBM bargain package, and the game plays just like it would if I were using my brothers $60 mouse (not really a gaming mouse, but quite high DPI). |

See, I get that the speed you turn is set, just the problem is having to drag my mouse all the way across the table to turn 90 degrees. |

I use the Steel Series Sensei - it uses the onboard profiles you mentioned and you can custom set your CPI up to something like 11000. I play Dust with it set to about 3000; higher than that seems a tiny bit faster, but also tends to jitter.
If I recall the mouse is like $80, which isn't bad for a gaming mouse. The buttons press a little easy for me but that's a personal gripe, overall it's the best mouse I've used (then again, all my other mice were Logitech so I can't compare to another gaming mouse).
As others mentioned though, the game does either cap or attenuate turn speed - it still takes me like 3 seconds to turn around, so it's not quite like a PC FPS. |

Hi Felix,
I've just bought the Sensei and am having some trouble with this mouse. Specifically, the right hand side buttons (designated 6 and 7) would freeze the mouse input when pressed. That is, press either button during the game (including in the Merc Quarters) and the game stops receiving any further input from the mouse (ie no movement or buttons detected). This is regardless of me setting either a key or text macro for the buttons, or even disabling the keys in the Engine config software. Even reversing left-right buttons don't help; its always the No. 6 and 7 buttons that gives the problem. The other buttons are fine. The only solution I've so far is to unplug and replug back into the PS3, which is pretty inconvenient in the middle of a firefight, as you can imagine :(
Have you encountered this problem and how did you overcome it if you'd done so? I'm kinda disappointed as this mouse is pretty above average priced and the mouse "dies" every time my overly clumsy right little finger touches it.
The second thing is I've set a pretty high CPI for the mouse, but yet I see no difference in the turning speed. I suppose this is hard capped by the game? Just wondering if you'd felt a difference.
Thanks. |

Remember mouse speed is hard capped, so move your mouse more slowly, you will turn at the same speed but without dragging your mouse across your desk. |

Holy crap, I've been trying for DAYS to figure out what was causing my mouse to lock out. I was starting to wonder if one of the USB ports on my PS3 was damaged!
Sadly, I've not found a solution other than yours of resetting the mouse. You mentioned setting macros or disabling the buttons; have you tried making 6 and 7 into clones of 4 and 5? I'll try that and see if it works, or if I find another solution I'll let you know.

I use 1850 CPI on my computer, and the profile I use for Dust is set to 2950. With the CPI there, it's definitely faster than it is using my desktop profile, though still slower than I'd like. Even with the CPI increase, my cursor moves slower in Dust than on my PC. I have the secondary CPI option set to 5950, and it's a *little* bit faster, but still quite slow, and the response is kinda choppy. So increasing CPI does help, but only to a point. I'm not sure if turn speed is technically capped or if the game just attenuates it more and more as it increases (I actually started a thread asking about this but it has disappeared into the bowels of the forum). Either way, the TL;DR is that raising your CPI helps, but you're still not gonna get PC FPS response by any stretch.
Encharrion wrote:Remember mouse speed is hard capped, so move your mouse more slowly, you will turn at the same speed but without dragging your mouse across your desk. Yeah, I kinda screw myself over there. I'm used to having acceleration and stuff too, so when I need to spin I have the PC-born habit of flinging my mouse a few inches to the side before lifting and resetting it. On the PS3, all that does is make me turn around a little at a time with lots of little stops on the way... |
