There should be a second and maybe third place prize or something. It seems like if you're going to offer as much as 1 million SP and ISK, there should be some drop off before just nothing.
That being said I'm somewhat biased since I'm pretty confident Minmitar won and Gallente (me) came in second. |

It will only hurt the desire for folks to want to keep testing and continue providing good feedback, especially when they are not allowed to pick their own Corps yet etc.
Well there should be some drop off. The whole idea of the corp battles is to win the zone for whoever is hiring you (or at least it is in theory) and showing off a little. It's still a beta so I'm not sure the 1mil ISK/SP even matters that much to be honest, I just figure if you're going to give prizes, you shouldn't give a huge prize for first and then absolutely nothing for second, etc (for the reasons you pointed out) but it also shouldn't be "everyone gets a participation prize regardless of outcome" because that's the antithesis of what Corp battles are.

Thisx1000. Tanks in ambush games that have no supply depots (so you can't change fits) are almost game-breaking. Even if you had a good anti-tank fit, chances are good you'd run out of ammo (even with nanohives) before destroying one (or it would outrun you) even with another friend running AV. And that's assuming you weren't killed before-hand by any infantry, which of course you can't counter because there's no where to switch suits.
And even if you manage to destroy it, chances are good you'd need to use some pretty expensive equipment to actually destroy the tank, so once it's dead, you're running around in a suit that is only good versus vehicles. Eventually you'll die and lose all the ISK on the build because there's no way to switch back to anti-infantry. It's sort of a lose-lose situation. |

WT Sherman wrote:About the prize or bonus sp and isk to be given, seems to me that giving the sp to just the winners will just further unbalance any future tests of corp battles. They won because of skill and already being able to field better fits, another mill sp will just let them max out something else with the losers never being able to catch up and obtain parity
That's the classic rich get richer argument when it comes to rewarding any first place team in a competition with more currency of any sort. The problem with rewarding participation prizes of equal value is that it makes winning meaningless. The problem with rewarding prizes of diminishing value as you work your way down the winners list is it still gives more currency to the already rich, but I think that's probably the best option if you want to promote a feeling of "we want to win" while still keeping it somewhat balanced.
As for the rest of your post, I think you just got unlucky relative to the corporation you're in. If you were in a more active corp, like Villore, for example, matches were filling up within 15-20 seconds of it showing up in the Battle Finder. Also you're more likely to have people who can field tanks, and people who can counter them.
Quote: Don't know exactly what CCP is testing here because they haven't said. In my opinion these tests aren't very good in that they don't give any type of info except on how hard it is to get into matches with so many people in the corps. Participation from the Templars wasn't what it should have been. There was no communication pre match and no way to do that if you wanted to unless you already have a TS server and were willing to open it up to the randoms in your "corp".
Actually, they did. They said they were stress testing the server. I had more lag in the Corp battles than I've ever had in a regular match, though it still wasn't horrible. |
