Dust is not any more fun than COD is. it may make you want to keep playing it with the reward system but thats not why people are going to try this game. every FPS should have some element of COD, like matched games and whatnot. But what I really enjoyed about other MMOs is the open world. this game has maps. not an open world to explore. I was really hoping this game would take that direction eventually because that would bring something brand new to FPS.
SO to my point. EVE has a world to explore and mine and NPC missions and its not just the PVP part. why cant Dusters be able to walk around and explore different worlds? This game just brings nothing new to the table so far. i like FPS and i like open world MMOs. and so far i like Dust 514.
If this game doesnt have a TON of more content coming with it then it will flop. it really will. This game needs ALOT more time and testing and content. I can play COD or MW3 and get the same experience. bring the best of ALL worlds and combine them into one with your own brand CCP!
Also, Hurry up and let us test the PVE already!

Bollocks this game is nothing new. cant be more than 15% of the game on offer here and I don't know any fps with more depth. even allot of MMO's don't let you make completely original characters but this shore does. As for open world that would be neat, and CCP seem to like to constantly upgrade so you never know. |

It would be really awesome to be able to own your planet, do a directional scan and have a "horde" npc site pop up for either bounty, mining, hacking or the like and it pops up with a distance and direction so you and your corp mates hop into a couple LAVs with a mobile CRU or a dropship and you charge off across your planet until you get to the site where it runs similar to a cosmic signature or anomaly in eve. |

So we're the latest military tech, and you want us to go mining? Not my idea of fun, but looking at FarmVille / mine craft, this would be something to attract more people. I have no problem with it being included, and certainly look forward to PvE especially co-op.
That said, protecting NPC mining gangs from drones or even other players would be better than doing it yourself. I wouldn't even mind the addition of skills to increase yield, or find less common minerals/materials after a mission. I'm quite keen for those who want to make industry have that option open to them. I want it open to me too, even though I probably won't take that path. Dust industry should be smaller scale, enough to find a Duster, but not enough to find EvE players.
Do we need to beta test these things? Probably not. CCP can manage most of this internally I would think. I doubt we'll see much before the 2013 update though. |

Dust will support the largest maps that the unreal 3.5 engine can support with out cracking. However that is the limitation, the old arcitecture of unreal 3.5.
If you want openworld, you need to play planetside 2.
Technically this[dust] is open world, because each map is actually situated on and based off the real terrain of a planet in eve. A facility may look similar or the same, but the maps geographical elements and environment will varry wildly based off of planetary mapping etc.
So yeah for now matches are 24 v 24, not the same kind of huge scale that planet side has with thousands of players. However planetside still has to have multiple servers. The open world element comes from occupying the same space as all the capsuleers in eve, and using the same market they do, and every other dust merc in new eden. Also if your fighting a match over a district on a planet theres other districts on the same planet being fought over by other merc groups. When your finish your match the map will have changed based on the victories defeats of those matches. This intern will effect planetary control for the dusters and the capsuleers in space. It may even play into sovereignty control for Faction war fare, and player empires in null sec.
Your next shot could topple an empire.
This is where the open world stuff comes from. It may be a single match, but the out come has far reaching consequences for the rest of new eden.
Also if you want to mine dont worry. Each planet has resources to offer. If you sieze a facility it can provide your dust corp with those resources or to what ever capsuleer group or other dust group you transfer it too. |

I personally expect we'll see CCP implement more of those characteristics as they get to them, and as the game goes on. I think at the basic they wanted to just get the FPS core itself working, and playable. Still needs polish and work, but it is coming along in that regard. I agree though I would love to see more EVE Online implemented, but I'd like to see more RPG (Role Playing Game) elements as a whole implemented. Whether that means mining, and crafting, and more -- I do not mind. Mission contracts with single player, or co-op gameplay would be nice. Salvage missions and/or drone fighting would be something. Anyway getting ahead of ourselves. Good idea, and hopefully CCP is listening. |

I hope they do add open world battle/exploration at some point but I am fairly certain they are trying to get the bugs out of combat before anything else. Considering no matter what this game is a FPS game but with alot of potential to be so much more. |

This.
Also, I seriously doubt the ps3 can support a completely open world like your suggesting. Maybe on the ps4.

As an EVE player, I say, "Not only no, but hell f-ck no."
After the game is polished enough for initial release. . . and after all the bugs are worked out of that release. . and after FW mechanics are fully implemented. . and after 0.0 mechanics are implemented (hopefully along with EVE side, the station/POS/ and maybe even a SOV overhaul). . after shared game space such as Incarna/WiS space for both EVE & DUST so we can all get out of our isolation cells, uhm I mean captain's quarters and merc quaters so as to plot and scheme and meta it up. . . then you carebears can carebear it up, mining rocks on planets, pewing with rogue or rouge drones. . . or whatever PvE activities you want to do.
There is an explorable area that has been talked about, it happens to be the shared WiS/Incarna/ambulation spaces.
Go read Jita 4-4. That's what I want. F-ck a planet.
In the mean time, perhaps we ought to focus on the development of a MMO first person shooter that ties into an existing MMORPG. . .

Ok, Tony's got a point. . . I will get off my soap box enough to say that a Co-Op "zombie" or "drone horde" mode would be a good addition, and CCP has made noises about putting it in. Yay. Fix lag. . . I mean KB&M.
I didn't decide to get into DUST so I could shoot lazors at rocks in this game. I can't be arsed to do it in EVE, be-damned if I'll do it in a shooter. |

i dont think you smell what im steppin in john. its obvious that all of the mechanics that are in place now, which are nothing short of COD/BF3 redux, will still be there for you. I merely want something new to the FPS standpoint that will maybe even redefine the Genre. Besides, mining in EvE isn't something you will do, so why complain about the people that like to do that? they keep your EvE economy rolling.
maybe we need some people like that from the Dust side. |

The problem with all FPS's in general is that the mechanics are almost identical every time. Yes developers put there own twists on it, but give CCP time to make DUST a one of a kind. Remember there is ony 2 PvP game modes available at the moment and PvE has not been emplemented yet. I do forsee greatness from DUST. |

I haven't followed development blogs and what not very closely but there is a very real possibility we haven't seen all the features they plan to deploy at launch. I doubt it'll be any sort of 'open world' but there could be lots of features we're not able to access in Beta right now because they're trying to fix the core issues. Then they'll probably introduce more features as the core issues get fixed.
If you're familiar at all with EVE history there were serious problems at launch. Instead of fixing the core issues (read: TQ's server location & equipment, latency, god there was some terrible lag in EVE's early days) they kept adding features that while the features were cool, didn't fix the core problems with the game. Features like COSMOS, level 4 missions, T2 lottery, and other newly added features (at the time) were done before CCP hunkered down and seriously worked on and fixed what was actually wrong with the game: lag, especially in large fleet fights. I lagged out of more than one fight.
So hopefully this is a sign of learning from their past. Hopefully they fix the core mechanics first, then worry about all the stars and glitter later... let's just hope they fix the core issues soon cause dang if they ain't annoyin'. |

mining would by no means be a main focus ever but activating your mining lav while you and your buddies defend it from hordes of guristas fits very well with dust and the eve universe. And it would enable resource gathering in dust without removing the fps portion to do it. Now if other payers are in the area and scan they could drop into your mining site and suddenly you've got a fight on your hands.
Or the same could be done with 'salvage' sites where you set up salvaging some big wreck and a per eve style and in the spirit of combat enemies could Join in and attempt to kill you.
PVE content should not be purely pve. Similar to how it works in eve. Dust also should not be only straightforward pvp as that is limiting it's possibilities and removing a lot of depth the game could have. with current rewards and prices having a nice suit in game I'd tough to afford unless you rarely ever die. In eve this is the same your insurance and enemy dropped loot is not enough to stay in a decent ship. You have to do 'carebear' things to afford it.while care bearing you can be attacked though and that system, adapted to dust, is what i want to see. After bugs are fixed.
Also i agree we probably won't need to test this sort of content much at all but it is a suggestion I'd like to see included in dust at some point in the future. |
