The smart bomb seems like quite a blow to any close quarter combat, and especially to the knife as a finisher. Maybe it's meant to help the heavy whine over scouts out strafing their turn speed. On the other side of that, it seems an effective anti-blob/camp tool as well since a suicide run could potentially take out an entire squad if they are all stacked on a hacking objective. |

Smart bomb in EvE was a high slot, our highs are EvE's mids and weapons go in eve's highs. So a smartbomb may require losing a sidearm or light weapon to fit, and cpu/pg could be high. I don't think it will be something everyone uses. They were also reusable in EvE, like typhoon in Deus Ex: human revolution. Could be a great defense for heavys vs scouts circling them close.
Laser rifles were in the cinimatic trailer that looked like heavy weapons, there could be both. Amarr use lasers at every weapon size in EvE. We may get several types of laser rifles under the same market section. |

There are only three, standard, advanced and prototype, they are clearly still in testing. There is no further information.

Smart Bombs could easily cause me to put down Dust and never look back, depending on the details. Bad gameplay.
Edit: On the other hand... maybe you can use them to suicide-gank tanks. |
