Been looking forward to this game for years now and very pleased I can finally give it ago.
Here are a few thoughts so far:
So far i'm impressed with the game as a whole, but I seem to spend more time in my quarters than actually out there shooting. The amount of stuff you can do in your quarters is amazing and I love the idea of truly specific character progression through skill acquisition, suit and vechicle load out and buying cool stuff on the market. But this is an FPS! People have to be able to throw themselves into a match and get with the killing quickly and easily.
- First issue here is the waiting time for a game. I know that Dust is still in Beta, so I guess this will speed up later.
- Next we have the war room. It's a cool idea, but you can't really do much there. Yes you can do quick changes to load out, but due to all the time you have in your quarters it's a bit pointless and just adds to the waiting times
- When the games does start, i'm often not sure what type of game i'm playing, Ambush or Skirmish.
Once I'm on the ground I enjoy a match but there could be improvements here too:
- First thing I noticed is that all the guns look and sound the same. By this I mean all Assault rifles look the same, all snipers look the same, etc. Would be cooler if different variants looked and sounded different.
- Satisfaction from shooting someone is a bit lacking. The best example of this I can think of is Call of Duty. When you hit someone you can hear a slight impact noise. This really adds the feel and something like that should be added. Would be cool if there was a shield hit noise and an armour hit noise too
- I'm not a big fan of the scopes. I like still being able to see some gun when I ADS, it adds context to the game. At the moment it's just point the little dot at someone.
- Dying is a real pain! Lying there dying takes a long time, it would be better if we could crawl around a bit to try to escape (no guns though). When you press that 'Help me' button there is no feed back. A voice shouting 'Get me up', or 'Medic!' would be loads better. And then when you press the suicide button that stupid drown plays. Please get rid of that. In an FPS most people die quite a few times and that gets old quick.
- Once dead we are back to the map. I like the map, that's really good. When I deploy I have to choose my load out again. Please change this so that your last load out is selected if available. It's a bit annoying selecting it again.
- More battle sound effects please! Less music and more people shouting random stuff out really adds to the feel.
- I would say at the moment, due to wait times, that games are too short. after the games ends, I'm back to the quarters again, with another long wait ahead of me.
Lots of these things are small, but they really detract from the flow of the game. The better this type of game flows the more addictive it is. I really want this game to work, which is why i'm being so critical.
I know that matches are driven by contracts, but it would be good if we didn't have to go back to our quarters to get one. Would there be a way to show us a list of contracts straight after the match debrief, so we can get on with another game with less waiting? I guess a more traditional style lobby could be used when doing the exhibition / betting / games matches so that people interested is just shooting stuff up can so with minimal waiting. This would be really handy for people who want a quick couple of rounds before they go out or something.
That's it for now. Well done so far! Really looking forward to the full game!! |
