Its odd what ive getting with this hit detection problem.
As everyone knows, there is a major bug with the hit detection. This bug has cost us many clones and equipment. But theres something interesting i found with this bug. I just got out of a game with a 17/4 KDR using my charge sniper rifle. Not impressive but thats not the point. During the game i was putting everyone down and suddenly BAM! hit detection dies on me shot two moving targets no damage but you can see the shields flare up like if they've been shot. Then i shot three standing targets and still no damage!? Its odd but i think this bug isnt just people moving too fast or just a random bug that causes the bullet not to damage your enemy but it just turns off? and it seemed to turn off as soon as im doing really well! After i spent 10 rounds with no damage with any of the shots; waited a couple of seconds and took another shot finally taking someone out.
Anybody else's hit detection just suddenly not registering anymore when they are doing good?

I had something like that happen to me not too long ago. I was sneaking around and came up behind a sniper. He didn't see me, so I unloaded into him. i was through a full clip and he took no damage, but I saw the shields light up like he as hit. |

I can vouch for this before the hot-fix i was able to get plenty of hits on people, After the hot-fix i'm lucky to get a hit with my shotgun at close range :/. |

i hope they fix this quick because new players to the game will hate this and lose interest in the game and we really dont need this to be a dead game before its even released.

What usually happens to me is that hot detection will register beautifully on target, then it'll just stop registering altogether in an instant! It gets frustrating when it does happen. Yet it doesn't happen all that often anymore |

perhaps if this is the case the hit chance algorithm should be set to a shorter recycle time..... |

YEP! I can be at ten kills and no deaths and then ZIP! everything I shoot at gets NO DAMAGE.

Maybe it's an secret EWAR module? ;P
I've noticed this with knife attacks from behind on snipers, 3 verified hits(shield reaction) but no damage what so ever. The same thing happened with me trying to gut a turret operator, no damage 3 slices and full mag of shotgun(8 shots), where only the last on registered.
I think I've seen it when sniping also, but can't verify or not. Because it might've been me missing and someone else shooting at the target. |

What you need to know is STB are easy mode players from MAG and I used a lvl 1 sniper rifle as an assualt rifle on that game and they hated it because I could out gun their beloved Tamsen. lol... I expect most STB to be in tanks on DUST. |

Quickly Vermaak,if he had pulled out his smg would people not have accused him of exploiting the 'op scout suit' ?
I know when I run sniper I take all secondary weapons off just for that reason.
Also no scoping in this game is nothing like no scoping with steady aim in cod.
Why we talking about the biggest FPS in history again? I believe there are more people playing infected than all the people playing eve and dust combined.
In infected LOL!!
Anyway keep the rift growing between all players. I really love the hate.

Ha, every time I am working on a positive KDR the game will freeze. It is like a curse or something.
But yes, the OP gives a nice description of sudden drop off in hit detection that seems to happen sometimes.
But I don't think there is any cause and effect relationship to how well a player is doing kill wise in a game.
Since some players still seem to be able to go 28/ 3... |

I've noticed this as well when chasing down ppl and it's very hard to miss someone when the barrel of your AR is almost touching them. |

it's like the actual damage is lagging behind the actual hits, imo.. idk kno for sure it's hard to say. i hope they fix this soon, none of my friends from other games will even play this game.. can't really say i blame them, they want to play games with good HD.. not eveyones up for testing i guess, they should have fixed this before all the PS+ invites imo |

yes. some games i'm hitting people fine then randomly it seems some people stop taking damage. they will be right in front of me and they wont die. i've ran head on to people up close in their face with trigger held, my screen is nothing but their character and its still not hitting them...
it is a problem, hopefully its taken care of before launch. this build it is better... but still flakes out. however, it is hard to say that its just hit detection. some of these people could have bad connections and are just laggy. all day yesterday i would throw out a nanohive and it would slide further than i've seen them and skip the whole way til it stopped. i believe this is lag. its possible the lag is so nasty right now that its affecting hit detection.

im sure they've notice this but why not fix it already theyve got a 30 min down time every day im sure theyre busy working on the rest of the game but this is a major problem that can kill the game! |

I had the same but with other way around 2 hits without an effect and the 3rd and 1st after reloading worked.

Only got 3 kills last night, all by hip fire. all deaths from aiming down sights and random shotguners. Emptied clips into people at close range and nothing, just shrugged them off and killed me like a stack of pancakes. New to the game/concept and I'm liking it already, just wish my shots count.

Yesterday I had a game where I used charge sniper rifle and landed three hits on a target far away. Their shields flared but no damage was registered for the first two shots, on the third time the shot applied damage to them and killed them in one.
I have seen this happen several times where the shields flare but no damage is done, doesn't matter if they are still or moving. |

i couldve gotten a 24/4 KDR if it wasnt for that hit detection although i was able to get my squad an orbital strike (squad leader was to ignorant to call it in though -_-)

Some people will shield and armor tank. Keep an eye on the health bars over your opponent. Some heavy suits with good shields can live through a clip of fire from a militia assault rifle. But if you see the health bar go down at least you know you are hitting.
Then again, sometimes not even that will happen.
They are working on improving matchmaking so that new players should not be mixed in with advanced players in the high level gear that can take a lot of damage. But it isn't quite there yet. |

Erm... heavy suits have smaller shields than a scout i think, if you aren't popin' em after 5 bullets, ur blind or the hit-boxes went to have a lunch break. If you are denting the armor, yep, it may seem like you are not hitting em, but after 20 bullets 1/4 of the armor should be off.
I find it the worst at close combat, i go around in a SW/Breach SMG fit, so i can get free WP from those militia LAV drivers and melt ppl at close quarters (everything but shotguns, as it should be) well; sometimes assault suits are killed so fast than my squad mates can't even get the assist. Then sometimes, the hit detection from 2 builds ago kidnaps the actual and i find myself using 2 mags 80 bullets each to kill the mentioned assault. But I'm not only talking about how awesome i am and how the breach SMP is da' boss; sometime i face a shotgun scout, and i say to myself "****, I'M DEAD" then i see trails from his gun through my chest/body, but my shields don't even flinch, and while i kill him (80 bullets are a dread thing to take to the chest) i can't help but feeling bad for the guy, almost as if cheating.... then i get an orbital strike and i ******* forget about him, get to a corner and search for the biggest zerling rush to nuke.
Seriously, the day the hit detection is fixed they might find the need to balance all weapons in the game, because atm any of em is working as intended yet they are somehow balanced, so when they work its gonna be crazy; SMG killing w 20 shots, 1OK shotguns, AR will turn to be terribad ( the range the only advantage against SMG) , a HMG capable of killing 10 ppl at the same time if close.... THAT will be a real game. |

as it stands now hit detection is **** and till it is fixed only the hardcore players are going to stick with it. so the hardcore players better start bitching also or they are going to have to buy a **** ton of Aurum to pay for dust514 cause there won't be many people who want to pay to play a first person russian roullete game. |

The sniper rifle hit but no damage bug is affected by location. It starts doing it move to new perch and hit detection turns back on. The hit detection on other guns seems at least partially a separate bug, scouts moving fast enough you have to lead at close range and lag making appear in wrong spot add to problem as well. CCP are fixing hit detection, but it seems to be causing them trouble. I look forward to the build it is perfect. |

Also buildings often seem to have hit boxes that go beyond their actual model size which is obviously a sniper specific issue. Also this game like most other UT engine games had problems of being too close where your gun can clip in to enemy model geometry and you pretty much stick your gun "through the hit box" and shoot air behind him. Sometimes hit detection works just fine and some times it doesn't , I've noticed this especially when using weapons such as sub-machine guns that actually are less reliable then a pistol on close ranges because they spurge all their bullets in one go while the scrambler rarely if not never seems to have hit detection issues. |
