Watched a number of vids.
New player will often grab sniper rifle, try quick scope...
Grab swarm launcher, shoot at infantry...
Good times.
But maybe it is not all bad that these videos are out there. In this one right at 11:07 there is a perfect example of the hit detection/ latency/ scout suit problem that so many people have been bringing up over and over again on these forums.
The quality is terrible, but if you have a chance to watch it take the time to rewind that fire fight right around 11 minutes in and view it a few times.
You will see:
Really weird shifts in player perspective every time they scope, switch to hip fire, scope again.
The amazing teleporting scout! One player is lagging fairly severely and blipping around on the screen.
A clear and legit head shot that gets some shield flare on the scout, and does no damage!
These things don't happen often (to me at least, others may have nothing but games that are as bad or worse. Some players might never see these issues. Really no way to know) but they are really frustrating and make for choppy, disorienting, and crappy game play when they do. |

I do not have telleporting scout suits, but this looks like a case of really bad lag.
In France, I have heard that the Americans all speak a foreign language, 'merkanese. JK.
But yes, that is exactly what CCP are up against with a free game on the PSN. Players from all over the world with all kinds of connections. A number of European countries have top of the line internets, some don't. Some players in the States have horrible connections. Not sure about Canada or Panama or Bahrain...
When people talk about "hit detection problem" what do they mean? Are they really talking about lag? How do the servers compensate for all of that kind of thing?
But all of those videos offer really great feed back about how players play and experience the game. So hopefully someone will take a moment to look through them all and add that data to the mix when fine tuning the next few builds. Then maybe send in the Great Hammer of Banning +15...
*Edit Lag or no lag, in that firefight the player's shot clearly connects with the opponent's head, there's some shield flare. And the scout takes no damage. Whatever the cause, speaking just for myself, when that kind of thing happens I sort of feel robbed. Fortunately I usually seem to have great connection from my end and only see those kinds of things rarely. But I have seen them. |
