Yes, it is an EVE novel. I just finished and it is a pretty good SF novel in general, and a great DUST background specifically.
While it won't improve your game play it will enhance your enjoyment. |

Templar one is basically the whole backstory to the dust clones being capable or ressurecting without the pod the eve pilots use |

Its the prequel to the beta, and contains many characters mentioned in other sources, so it should be cannon.

Templar One is a sequel to Empyrean Age, You'll meet some familiar characters.
I still need to finish Templar One though, now that I'm playing Dust on the regular I've really been itching to get back into it. I want some more backstory for my merc! |

This is true, Templar One can be enjoyed without Empyrean Age for similar reasons. |

All EVE novels are written by CCP employees and are canon, yes. Not only are they canon, but they set up changes in-game like Templar One being the setup for DUST. |

Most every major expansion to Eve (and soon Dust) have a lot of great backstory. It's one of the things that makes New Eden such a cool sandbox to play in.
Not just books, but also online chronicles. |

Yeah, I forgot to mention this. There's about ten years of fiction and backstory online for anyone to read. There's at least one about DUST--it's called 514. |

I have the first novel by, Tony Gonzales -- The Empyrian Age -- and it is a great novel. Long, and very detailed. I am hoping to get through this novel and progress to them in order though. |

The 514 chronicle was great. It reveals quite a bit about the PvE aspects coming to Dust.
Also, I'm calling it now, this song will be used in an upcoming trailer. Just listen to the little sleepers at 1:35 and the big one at 1:57... it's gotta be. |
