Hey fellow heavies just wanted to hear from you how you feel about the heavy and his group role in the new build.
As of right now I would have to say that the heavies role is pretty much confined to anti-vehicle. I almost always feel outgunned when it comes to infantry battles. While the HMG is better this build, that is to say usable rather than complete garbage, it is still seriously lacking in stopping power. Part of this is because I think that CCP might not have a clear idea of exactly what they want to do with the HMG. Traditionally the role of a heavy machine gun in a unit has been suppressive fire and area control. Basically that means putting as much metal in the air as quickly as possible to keep an enemy pinned down or to keep that enemy from advancing. But to do that there has to be a real threat of injury from getting hit and right now I don't feel that there is. People are just running through it like its nothing, by the time the gun spools up and the accuracy is worth anything I'm already three fourths of the way dead from the little SMG they were packing. At this point I'm back to feeling that I need to fit an assault rifle just to stay effective and if that's the case then whats the point of being a heavy? I didn't intend for this to be quite as negative as it was but its just something I had on my mind. It seems like the heavy got left out in the cold this build when compared to the logi and others. Or maybe I'm just being crazy? Let me know what you guys think about the HMG and the heavy in general. |

Deleted all my heavy fits. Forge gun not worth useing with the range nerf. HMG close to useless.

dunno how far you've advanced your skills, but I know of one Aussie Server Heavy that minces Assault suits with the HMG.
even out to a respectable range, which last i thought about it, was when i tried to take him out with a SMG. My SMg fairly much missed entirely and though the HMG missed alot as well, it still tore thru me Very Fast.
Mind that i was still in a militia Assault suit, but the guy i am talking about still runs around predominately with a HMg and still regularly gets around 10/1 KD.
most players now avoid him if they can't flank him (ambush)... i have seen him using a scout sniper fit for the big Open skirmish maps. |

I use rifles for open maps, and the HMG for close quarter stuff. I'm doing pretty damn good with the HMG and I actually feel bad when I run through a buncha dudes with it. I just went a round 20/0. The funny thing is i originally wanted to be mostly AV, but I hardly get the chance to do so. But I like to whip out the forge gun when I can. |

I'm going for maxed Forge Gunning this build as well. It is TOUGH though - dancing scouts come up and smg my face into little bits while my militia smg tries to keep up.
At this point its almost worthless to run AV. There are so few vehicles that it just doesn't see that much use. However, in the future LAVs and dropships - tanks too - will be much more abundant and able to take more hits. I want to be a name they fear on the opposite team and to hear a sigh of relief if I'm on theirs... |

Good to hear from a brother heavy! I agree that something needs to be adjusted with the HMG quite often I find myself facing off an assault suit with AR and end up dying just before he does, I'm using advanced HMG at the moment so I have a reasonable damage upgrade and my armour is well kitted out. Maybe I just need to focus on my armour harder? But if I find a group of damaged enemies all charging at me at close range it's open season I think my record is 5 but that rarely happens. I think with the HMG you could increase the range and power but limit your movement even more (as if you were dealing with the recoil) which would still allow anti heavy tactics, those damn scouts with shotguns. As for the AV role I use an all militia gear heavy with a basic Forge gun as you usually die so to keep costs down I go cheap but I have a technique for hitting LAV's trying to run everyone over, I goad him into charging at me with the forge gun charged and fire when he's nearly on top of me so I get maxim damage it took a while to get it right but the last time I was in a match with one of these LAV drivers I got him 6 or 7 times, Tanks are a bit harder though I find I need support and a second heavy to take out anything above a militia tank as the forge gun is now very short ranged. I do feel the Heavy suits need something more as to even level up to the advanced you need over 2 million skill points I hope they are worth the effort I'm putting in? But I will persevere as I like the fitting and when you work in a team with comms with a couple of guys supporting you they are devastating when busting into an enemy position.

Everytime I see a heavy with a HMG (Heavy Machine Gun), or forge gun I am happy. Why? Because, atleast someone on my side of the team will be doing something, and committing to ridding the field of vehicles, or protecting objectives with their HMG. I only wish I saw more heavies. Could have used some of you against, Nova Knife. Smurf just rolled in with a HAV and ganked my team hard.

I have to say every time i face a Heavy,... I die,
HMG owns SMG and AR from my experience. Though this may be due to me running as a Scout...
or it's just I'm bad at this game, lol

Not a dedicated heavy player- I use a militia heavy fit with *brace yourself* a shotgun. I know, it sounds ridiculous, but it's actually more effective for me than using the HMG. lets be clear here... I have NO heavy dropsuit skills and NO shotgun-specific skills. I have HMG III, however. And still... the shotgun has proven far more useful.
My normal fits are Scout Sniper (no sidearm) and Assault AR. When I see a heavy with a HMG sighting me up, I don't even worry. The heavy can't move around faster than I can line him up with the sniper even at close range, and the AR lands more hits easily than his HMG.
Could be the heavies I face simply don't know what they are doing, but it happens so often I can't deny the HMG seems a litte *off* |

Get behind us, and use your speed to stay behind us. Don't run straight at a heavy. Even if he has a forge gun, make sure to move back and forth. If you run right at the forge gun you can bet were just lining up to melt you. |

Still around ...... new build immediately sent me into budget mode. New econ is rather tough on the heavy. But I'm slowly making my way up . Got four weapon skills to build though .(AR ,SMG, HMG, FG) |

The gun is far from balanced thats why you see adjustment to the HMG every build we are getting there but still need some tweaking especially the DPS. The large clip and high RoF doesn't matter when bullets don't hit due to the nature of this gun; hip fire, slow turning speed and the bad accuracy before spooling up.
I have seen the HMG going through tremendous changes each build some where good for balancing the gun and some where terrible (E3 build's HMG), in this build it have gotten better but still needs work as i said and imho is the out put damage that require some attention to define the true rule of the HMG. |

Not a heavy, but i am your guy's best friend - the Logi!
me and a heavy just devastated another team by the power of tanking.
i wish there were more ways to buff heavies than healing, such as an item that is like the repair tool that replenishes ammo in the magazine of the weapon that the heavy is using or keeps the gun cool. that would be a devastating buff when they add laser weapons.
I am all but certain that laser weapons will be heavy, as the amarr use lasers and the racial dropsuit for the amarr is heavy.

Heavy here, I disagree. Adamantly in fact.
Using an SMG, I can deal with any infantry who come my way.
I do seem a lot squishier than I was back in the previous build. Maybe I'm just used to using a better suit. |

I always use a heavy standard fit but give it an assault rifle (costs to much to go any higher), and im getting 18/4. I used to swear by the HMG in the first build, then it just got worst and worst. So assault rifle it is. Im not going to buy any higher until they sort it out. Im doing ok with the basic fit. The last build i had 14 mil xp and 1500 kills.
I do want to use the heavy as it should be used but until it is sorted out, im sticking.
Kill em all, let god sort them out

The Breach shotgun heavy is also nice. Just make sure you get longranged sidearm. |
