There's a lot of debate going on over profane names here and whether CCP should/are going to do something about it.
The chat filter already turns most profanities into "kitten" (including words that happen to have profanities within them... kittenault!) So it stands to reason that they can and eventually will apply a similar filter to character names.
The PSN network name argument is invalid- we can have multiple characters therefore just pulling the PSN name won't work, PLUS these character names need to be unique across the EVE universe. PSN names and EVE character names have existed separately for years now, that would be a hell of a thing to try to fix.
It's not about what your religion, race, etc. It's just a good business plan for CCP to do their best to keep some of this out of their game. They could just fall back on the EULA and "Online Experience May Change" stuff, but they take it seriously and do their best.
Voice chat? Can't censor the profanity out of it, but that's why we have a mute option.... and because of all those mouth-breathers that don't have PTT enabled.

Its a sad, sad thing that there are people who feel the need to create such disturbed nicknames. . . makes me want to split their heads open to research what kind of brain is able to do that. . . jokes aside, as previously mentioned there where times where you chose your nick once and stuck with it for years, i chose my nick when i registered my first email-address and i still use it wherever i can (too bad that i already have an eve char . . . had to use a variation of my nick for dust) - so i cant really see how people could've made a nick that they deemed embarassing after some time, i mean i was not older than you when i chose my nick . . .
about nicks in dust specially. . . i think reporting every inappropriate nick we encounter is the best we can do. . . |

saw a name last night on the servers, " black fu*er" now thats down right offensive and should have never even got past the dust char maker
now GM grave, i see this in game i just started . i would have expected this to be jumped on / flagged right away by the char maker, you censor my chat in dust i mean cannot even say A.S.S.A.U.L.T without it changed to the word kittens how you expect me to offer advice on training skills when words used in game become censored. yet these types of nicknames/char names are getting through.
if i saw this name in eve i could report from client, this kind of stuff should be base coded into game, not added at the last min
let me adjust your message to how it should be
If you come across offensive conduct simply let us know in-Game using the help tab under the start menu, here you can find the report/player bug tab
i think it sounds more CCP not Mail us here here and here and also over there an here. |

As said before, for anything related to Nicknames, please contact us at [email protected] . It's nearly impossible to check all the character names manually so any help is more than welcome ;) |

I really don't care about people's character names. I think anyone should have the right to make the name they want (provided its not taken), even if its something I find offensive. |

Actually - that won't work either because remember that Dust will be using the same Database as EVE. Imagine some Eve character named "blackstar". Now say that your PSN account just happens to be Blackstar. You wouldn't ever be able to play Dust on that psn account because some eve player make the character 9 years ago and doesn't even play eve anymore.
