I have been in Beta since E3.
I have played Eve since 2008.
I dont understand how the spotting system works.
My intuition would be line of sight to someone spots them, and that shooting your gun, spots you to anyone who is in range to hear it.
Now, you would think that with that, someone who is behind cover, far away, and not shooting or moving, would NOT be spotted, but I am not sure.
Please CCP do two things: 1. Explain to us how spotting is supposed to be working so we can test it 2. Add a visual indication on the HUD of when you have been spotted (even if just for the beta so we can test it)
If you do these things, we might be able to say "Hey, my spotting is broken" or "Hey, working as intended, but I don't like it"
Right now, we can do neither. |

my understanding from playing with it the rule if they looking at you(you are in their field of vision in direct line of site you show up)
now the hazy stuff none line of site spoting has something to do with your sensor strength vs their sensor sig(this is how you can see tanks and other vehicular even when they hide in their spawn their signature is so large they are almost always to be spotted
moving does seem to effect it but im not sure how much
i cant give you any exact number for how it works but maybe a dev can, or just explain how they are trying to get it to work |

I think the spotting system in this game is far too passive intel and knowing enemy positions should be a player controled thing even if it is Battlefield style hit select while aiming to spot the enemy it would make snipers more usefull for team play reckon could have some sort of boost to spotting abilities mabye a boost to scanning ect,
As it stand now it seems a little too random iv spotted people by accident because my screen pasted in the general direction of them, as a incentive for reckon to play this role maybe have spot assist points awarded to the person who spots a enemy that is taken down they are playing a vital role in the battle as it is now the points are not deserved but if it was made manual then it would be.
Possible improvement in long run:
Over hauled spotting in ghost recon future soldier there was a brilliant spotting system where if you manually spot someone a arrow appears over their heads and if you are using a specialized piece of equipment in future soldier it was a UAV which effectivly established a intel uplink which showed a red outline of the enemy even through walls i think this should be included and be done by using specialised equipment such as a recon drone or a target painter(possible use)
New class Special forces which are effectivly Assualt suits perhaps Teck 2 which has high bonuses to using intel related equipment and keeping them selfs off of the enemies radar,
Sorry for possible spelling mistakes and grammar ive not got great grammar and it getting late. |

I'm quite happy with the spotting system. Only improvement worth having would be making people show up if they fire within say 15yards of you. Or whatever range people are happy with. |

If the enemy can see you, their entire team sees you marked on their HUD/minimap. If you sprint or jump, same deal. Shooting does not make you show up, which is a bit silly. |

Yeah it does. I believe it all falls under the category of "Signature Radius" - how big of a radar footprint you create. Crouching decreases your sig radius, shooting or sprinting increase it. From what I've seen, each individual shot increases your sig radius by a certain amount dependent on your weapon type, though lag sometimes is a factor. i.e. they don't show up on your radar til after you're dead.
It is fairly opaque at the moment, but I am pretty sure that will change. there are "active scanner" modules which aren't in the game yet, etc. Most likely there will eventually be at least a signature radius listed for each suit and vehicle. |
