This really doesn't surprise me Baalash. Although I've never seen matches with only 1v1 players, I *do* regularly get put in ambush match after ambush match (almost always on the same small urban map) now that we're unable to state a preference for game mode or server location. I'm also experiencing, as you say, "crazy lag"
*speculation alert* Now, personally I find the ambush mode rather dull compared to objective-based gameplay, and I'm pretty sure I'm not alone, so I'm guessing that after 6 ambush matches in a row, people start to quit their match and re-apply hoping for a skirmish battle. I'd guess that the end result of this player behaviour is lots of empty spaces in unwanted Ambush matches, and while I can only speculate on Dust's "matchmaking" algorithm, I imagine that the game probably fills up current matches as a matter of priority (as the proverbial clock is already ticking on those) with less consideration than usual as to ensuring a game which is in any way "matched". Certainly I've experienced consistently less even-sided gameplay and *far* worse lag since the matchmaking tool was introduced. The lag could be down to the huge raft of new features introduced at the same time (nice job guys!), but I'm guessing that a large part of it is player behaviour trying to get an enjoyable game out of the the matchmaker, and it having to fill many gaps on sub-optimal servers as a result.
This would certainly explain why many of us are landing in unwanted Ambush games with horrendous lag match after match. *speculation ends*
Now, if my speculations are accurate, the problem's easily worked out by allowing player to state a game mode when joining the quick match finder, *or* providing an alternative to the quick match finder. I would say that the old battle finder seemed to be fine, and it certainly delivered a more balanced match, but it didn't have to contend with pre-formed squads, which I suspect has changed the landscape a bit). Without players having to "fight" the matchmaker to be able to play the game they want, I suspect it will be free to deliver a better matched, well.... match And if my speculations aren't correct, we get the ability to state our preferred game mode back
Whatever the cause, I agree that this is a real show-stopper problem which I'd love to see getting some attention soon. |
