I have zip!! for HAV skills but I have plenty of time and motivation to get some skills.
I obtained some nice salvage that were special edition black ops HAVs. I want to go tank hunting but I know Jack kitten about fitting a HAV.
So my first question is: On a Black Ops HAV that we place three -25% shield damage resist mods and one -20% or was it two?? shield damage resist mods. If the shield damage resist number is over 100% does this then mean that the special edition black ops HAV is not going to get any shield damage??
Or does this mean that the enemy Gunnlogi is shooting for say 1500 damage but the Black Ops HAV only sees 699 damage and the Gunnlogi is dead in a few shots from the Black Ops HAV??

First you need to look at the tank attributes... if it has more armor its an armor tank... if it has more shield its a shield tank you base your fit on that... each resistance you add has a stacking penalty meaning each will do less resistance than the first... add me to psn i can help you TedNugent_ |

Actually I am going to explain to you how resists work based on how EVE works and my getting shot seems to correlate my information about right.
So lets say you have two 10% millita resistance amplifiers for your tank. This will not in fact yield 80% damage. The two important things to know are diminishing returns and same modules usage.
The running numbers that i've heard last are module 1 : 100% module 2: 75% module 3 50% module 4 25% or something close to this. So your second resistance amplifier will actually only gives 7.5% resist in the first place so it's a good idea to mix extra effective Hp with extra damage resistance.
The other half of the math, much more convoluted. So lets ignore the diminishing returns for now and just pretend they both give 10% because it's easier to math like that.
You start with taking 100% damage, you put your first resistance module on and your damage taken lowers to 90%, usefull but not amazing, but once you put your second one on it actually takes 10% from the remainder, so 90% goes to 81% because 10% x 90% = 9% if you were to put a third on it would reduce by 8.1% so your total would be 72.9%
Add these two factors together and if you could put 3 resistance mods together on at once you get a total of about 18% (geustimate) while a single module which requires about 1mill SP investment can give you 25% by itself for less cpu and pg, but with a isk cost.
But thats just how to understand most of EVE math as for builds, because your worried about infantry AV you generally want to be able to GTFO of anything dangerous, and the more total hp you have the better. |

Ok, so first of all, modules with similar effects are penalized with stacking penalties. The penalties are as follows:
1st module = 100% effect 2nd module = 87% effect 3rd module = 57% effect 4th module = 28% effect
However, if damage control units work like they do in eve, they are not susceptible to stacking penalties. So that means that if you work out the math, 3 25% resist modules and an F45 damage control unit (I think that's the one) comes out to exactly 75% damage reduction. This means that for every 4 points of damage you receive, you will only take 1 point. According to the above post, my math is wrong...
Also, according to the info about the black ops tanks, they each have 4 high slots and 4 low slots. Without 5 medium slots you can't fit the best possible shield tank, so I recommend you go with either the Gunnlogi or Sagaris.
I fit my Sagaris last build with 3 25% resist modules, a damage control unit, the best shield extender, 2 skadi damage modifiers and a cpu enhancer. I would recommend you try a similar fit on a Gunnlogi.
Finally, I've been away for a week and only barely got a chance to try out the new build, but I did get a chance to try out large blaster turrets, and they are very powerful this build, just remember they have short range. |

Hmmm that explains it a bit. Thanks. Just hopeing this experimental?? salvage puppy has five or six slots on a side to experiment with a few settings once I HAVe the skills to try some test fits on these. |

I just recently started working on a Madrugar fit, and am having fits with it. I don't know what to use my hislots for, primarily. And am unsure how effective my mediums are. (wanna call these mids and lows eve style, the icons confuse me, lol)
What should a good armor tank look like? I have hit on large rep, 3x resist, plate, and damage control in the mid. |

I think mechanics?? at L5 helps with extra HP armour for dropsuits and armour tanks??

just saying, there is a alternative build i thought of for armour tankers which would give us a curios advantage over the shield guys, shield guys don't rep while being shot at but if you say took one of your other components form the low slot you can fit 2 small amour repairs and have the ability to repair yourself pretty consistently by alternating between the two of them and using both when your getting heavy firepower. This is a more... skill based build so might not work so great for people inexperienced but it has potential. |

I have considered this as well, trick is having only 5 lows. I like the three resist modules, but I like a plate as well, not sure if having two smaller reps outweighs the buffer of a plate.
An earlier fit on a soma was inconclusive for me, but those seem to burn down so fast. I hope to get the skills for 25% mods tonight and try it again. Just like another 160k sp. |
