I'm guessing the use of identifying your corp in your character name has a purpose in FPS games? I notice all of the STB guys are "STB_Random_Guy". Is this to make it easier to identify who is in what group?
Also, have you considered the implications in a game where the name can't be changed? Continuing with this example, what if you leave STB? If you want to change so that you aren't identified as a member of them, you have to create a new character, and you lose all skill points earned.
Can someone explain why this is done, as I am genuinely confused as to the purpose. |

But you keep the name when it goes live, unless you create a new character, which means you lose that cool "beta birthdate" for your character. In this universe, people do check that so they have an idea of the skill point level of a person they are fighting against. I like the idea that my character will have a beta birthdate, as it marks me as an original player. |

I dunno, I think it's a silly practice too, but it doesn't harm anyone but themselves, so I don't have a problem with it. |

Oh I don't have a problem either, I was just curious why they did it. |

Most FPS games you don't have to make a new character to rename yourself and waste 2 years of sp grinding. Some of the STB guys will be STB or not play. Its like an e-tattoo. |

It's a format started like 13 yrs ago with early multiplayer fps games. Back then it was the only way to designate what clan you were in. Today it still has its uses in games that don't support clan affiliations. It's really pointless in games that don't allow you to change your character name, like Dust and Eve, especially if you change clans. |

Personal Preference. No one knows whether or not name changes will be allowed. So far it is just the beta and no big deal. If they however decide to leave their clan and you can't change your name is when it can become an issue. |

It's impossible to change your name in Eve, unless your name is offensive, then it becomes CaldariCitizen5263784746. Dust and Eve share the same name database afaik, so I imagine the same rules will apply to Dust. |

There's not really much point. As soon as corps are introduced they'll be able to create their corp and I would imagine CCP will give the option to add a "clan-tag" for the corp that everyone gets or maybe has the option of using.
Just have to wait and see how the corp integration is implemented. |

Given how EVE works with corp/alliance tagging I'd be shocked if we don't see something similar with our names. So in the hud and leaderboard you'd show up as something like :
IR Scifi [AC]
So you have your name + corp abbreviation + alliance abbreviation. |
