I've said it before, but I need to bring it up given the new "balancing" of tanks. If there is a crash or disconnect you should at least have the chance of recovering your vehicles. It's really lame to lose 3 hours of ISK because the kittening game hard freezes. |

Gauder Berwyck wrote:I just have to be the devils advocate... From a programmers point of view, how do you determine a disconnect? If you get stuff back just by pulling the plug, then it is open for cheating. It's sadly a case of the lesser of two evils I think. So, while I am a MAGgot just like you Noc, I just have to use the EVE mantra here.... Harden the **** up!
Um, the compromise is have an RDV recall it. That doesn't save it if you got yourself in a boned situation. Getting +'s for simply posting HTFU doesn't affect anything at all. In eve you don't lose your ships if the client crashes when you're just flying around and not in direct combat. |

I have a thread about this in Feedback/Requests that everyone ignores, even though re-connecting to matches in progress is a vital feature for any online game, particularly a PERSISTENT one. In EVE it at least tries to warp you out so you don't lose your ship. Here is the link : https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=27770I've lost 1 mill isk in Sagas since the patch just from DCs because Australia has horribad internet. ive lost countless millions of isk to random fails in the game where i didnt get anything from playing but had to rebuy what i lost from dying. IDRC because i followed the golden rule. dont use what you cant afford to lose i dont use any new gear unless i can buy 50 of it that way if im focusing on saving my money up for something i wont need to worry if i would have lost money if i needed to replace after everymatch im able to [play around 10 matches without having to resupply and that gives me time to raise 1-1.5 million isk on average before i need to spend some money on new suits or say f it and switch to militia till i have finished my saving.
You realize that saving up 1.5 M barely covers the cost of a good teir 1 tank fit right? Your golden rule is pointless in this situation. So it is good gameplay to lose literally hours of progress because the game is buggy? You *really* think that is going to fly?
Incidentally, you do know there is a petition system in EVE for these kind of things, right? You clearly lack the context to comment so instead of spouting HTFU, you should just STFU. |

Gauder Berwyck wrote:Ah my bad Noc, read your post a tad too quick. Well, I don't play Eve, so I'm not familiar with the game mechanics.
How would you implement it then? If it detects a disconnect, an RDV is automatically dispatched? If you have to call it in, then that's easier said than done, the tank might have been blown to pieces by the time you manage to get the game client booted again. What if a slope makes it difficult for the RDV to lock onto a vehicle for some strange reason? Should there be a delay before the RDV comes, alternatively make it a low priority (because I am sure whoever contracted the team would like the tank to remain on the battlefield for use)?
The reason why I ask all these questions is because of my programmer background. I like the idea of saving stuff by adding mechanism for them, but I also said I would be the devils advocate because before any programmer thinks seriously about coding something like that (which will take considerable time, even if it seems simple) they need answers to all those questions.
Also, the HTFU was more because I finally got the chance to use it in a semi-relevant setting, had it not been for my slight misunderstanding :)
In eve there is an emergency warp when you suffer a disconnect. Furthermore there is a petition system for those instances where that fails or other situations that doesn't cover.
Don't take my rebukes too personally, there are a LOT of people throwing phrases around where it doesn't make sense. It is more for their benefit than yours when I complain about it. No hard feelings though. |

Tony Calif wrote:Just use cheap militia tanks. That way you'll only lose a games worth of ISK. They need to work on stability before we start recalling HAV's. Btw, how would you recall a Dropship in flight? :D
Full militia fit HAVs are still two games worth of ISK. And they are paper that anyone with 3 basic AV grenades could solo. Not worth it. Assuming the game will be perfect is not a good idea. What about the people who pay $1+ for an AUR tank. Are they SOL too because the game failed? The feature will be important no matter the age of the game because **** happens. Better to plan a response than assume smooth sailing. |
