Things you can do to break ambush: 1. Infinite Grenades 2. Switching to a fit with a repair gun and nano injector to rez and heal other snipers camping from the depot, then switch back and snipe 3. Infinite nano hives/up links; run out, pick the fit with one fitted and you are replenished 4. Switching to a mid range or CBQ fit as the enemy closes in 5. Healing yourself; down to no armor? Switch to a different suit then back and full health Edit: 6. Switching to a rep fit and repairing the depot after forge guns try to counter sniping the depot or the snipers. 7. Switching to AV fits if Vehicles are brought in.
This is all limited to being with in range of the Depot but its a deadly tactic. I have no idea on a "better" supply depot but these are the tricks with the ones we have.
All this has been done in game with my squad.
Any thoughts. |

My forge gun was a rook and the supply depot is a pawn. Any questions? |

Not many forge guns can walk in range of snipers, even when they did they didnt get enough damage on the supply depot for me not to rep it. |

Haha, I don't think this really breaks anything. Supply depots can be blown up, you know. |

I dont understand your grammar, but in your original terms "to take the pawn(supply depot) with your rook(forge gun/heavy suit) is to ignore the queen(Snipers) that will take the rook(forge gun) next turn" and in Dust you dont even get to suicide down the depot due to snipers(or w/e fit they want to kill you with). This is a trend of Ambush maps with supply depots thats been happening since last night. It seems a few squads/players have figured these tricks out and are abusing them heavily. Orbital Strikes and heavy HAV assaults seem to be the only measure against this besides the team using the depot moves off of it in significant numbers. Swarm launchers need a real solid angle and then... snipers! Usually 3 or 4.

The forge gun use to have a range equivalent to the sniper so the queen was at best a Bishop compared to the Rook |

They could build a power supply to the depots preventing them from being candy dispensers. |

This is all well and good for militia fittings, but don't you lose whatever gear you had on when you switch at a supply depot? (I'm pretty sure that was the case in older builds.) |

In the new build forge guns dont have infinite range; they definitely have to get within about 2/3 of the distance a sniper has to, to hit and thats a big slow relatively close target.
As for the non militia fits I believe you are right there but I dont use the expensive stuff yet. Once everyone gets better gear and due to that we all make a bit more money from matches we will see. Militia fits are still quite lethal especially one (or 2 or 3) thats constantly lobbing grenades your direction or healing every reload. |

A few hackable power junctions a short distance away, would be a nice way to indirectly fight depots. |

Just saying lets say the supply depot has a 'capacitor' you drain it every time you use it for anything, changing suits, rearming ammo or grenades, its slow to regen but it regens eventually. |

But why? As pointed out there are counters to basing a squad at the depot: focus hav fire, forge/swarm, drop ships
And as players skill up the options increase
Yes , supply depot basing is effective. But it's not broken. Well, some of that stuff pushes the envelope (obv the infinite and rapid resupply of grenades and suit switching). But I feel like a coordinated approach that counters a tightly group and fairly stationary team is easily achievable. |

True as long as it doesnt repair infantry armor or auto revives nearby allies its all good. |

I don't see a problem with it. It creates a focus point for an ambush map for people to fight over. Ambush maps without supply depots are pretty boring. |
