so i bought a 1 day UVT to test out. Its pretty kool, like a party chat, can chat to ppl even if they not in the same game
couple problems and big issues imo
1. Everyone needs to buy 1 for voice to work for everyone in the custom chat channel 2. Prices
Solution:
This solution solves both 1 & 2
First off i gotta say i dont mind payin for it IF its done like this or similar and the prices are comparable to external ones. So my solution is this, CCP has to make money of the game we all know this, ppl can QQ all their want about UVTs the thing is we never had this sort of chat in ANY ps3 game where u can talk to ppl even if they not in the same map as u so this is a BONUS to the normal chat we already get on ps3 games. Xbox peeps have had this with their party chat system already in place.
1st off CCP make it so that ONLY 1 person needs to buy the UVT and once hes online he can activate it for the ENTIRE custom channel
2ndly CCP doin this u will im sure have to tweak the prices, tweak it to make it less than external options, that way it would entice ppl to use the UVT instead of paying more for an external option. That way ur basically payin for a voice server rather than each person having to seperately buy a UVT cuz not everyone will spend AUR on the game and u cant expect the big clans coming over whether competitive or casual to all have their members buy UVTs
gaming is as much social as it is actually playing so make ur social options reasonable and more enticing than external options. Not everyone has a PC or laptop near their console so external voice comms arent even an option for some.
I'd gladly fund my corp one if its tweaked tbh but dont expect me to convince all my guys to go get PSN cards and buy UVTs thats just bullshit no matter how u try to spin it.
thoughts guys? CCP? |

I think the major problem is the price - it costs WAY more to use UVTs than to use ANY PC-based voice comms. There are free options (Skype, Yahoo) with limitations, and practically unlimited options with MUCH lower prices than what CCP are currently charging.
If they tone that down massively, or if they change it so a UVT means you get voice chat for EVERYONE in your channel, then they might be onto something. But if the current setup goes live on release, almost everyone will VERY quickly move to other methods of communicating with their teammates outside of battle. |

I'm expecting that sooner or later, they'll have free VoIP for corp chat, like in EVE, so that should help things. The UVT might just be for if you want to talk to your friends from different corps, on different maps. At least, I hope that's how it goes down. |

Tbh i think OP hit it more on the point, prices are the issue, but the bigger issue is expecting an entire clan to coordinate in getting it. It just wont happen, and thus it will prevent even more people from getting it because then whats the point?
Using UVT to activate a channel, rather then an individual players ability, is a smarter way to go both economically for CCP and for players. They could also try and go for a one-time purchase thing, player buys it once, no renewals, and that may work... but honestly i think it would be more financially beneficial for CCP in the long run and convenient for players to implement Mavados policy.
And to really clarify, there are not only cheap external options, but free ones as well:
C3 (free and has some pretty cool features to boot)
Vent (Cheap, charge for HOST, kind of like what nums is pushing for UVT)
Teamspak 3 (Popular amongst eve players, kind of makes sense to use it in that sense, and also free from my understanding)
Skype (Free for what its needed for in this purpose, although can get buggy with bigger chat sizes)
... these are the ones that come to mind, and im sure there are others. Would be much easier to use them then to try and convince large groups of people to renew UVT. However if you put it to so it unlocks chat for custom channel, benefits would outweigh costs. |

The point about not everyone coordinating to get them is a good one, and I hadn't actually thought it through that far. Good call Victor.
I'm less supportive of my idea now, and more supportive of OP, but the price issue is worth mentioning still, because that host cost on Vent is still WAY cheaper than we're currently expected to pay per person. When you can say that honestly, then there are BIG problems with the system. |

yea hence i think only one person should be able to buy it and activate it for the custom channel tbh |
