OK. I'm old, I don't play a lot of FPS and I know I'm an idiot.
Now to the question...
Can someone explain what the Deadzone and Aim Assist adjustments in Options do?
I'm not looking for an answer like, "Aim Assist helps you aim," but rather how Aim Assist actually affects aiming.
Same with Deadzone. "You can change the size of the Deadzone," will not be helpful. I'm asking what is a Deadzone and how making it bigger or smaller actually affects hitting a target.
Thx to all answerers that are good at explaining things so that n00bs like me can truly understand them.

Dead zone means adjusting the 'shrooms' on your DS3 to your liking. Aim assist is just that an aim bot that helps you to shoot, though it's not very active except from a very close range where it sometimes kicks in and leads your shots if you let it, doesn't change much if you leave the assist on or not.
They say it hinders the keyb & mouse controls if you leave it on though. |

Aim Assist: Sort of "locks on" to the target you are firing at.. tries to help you keep your reticle on them while you are fighting. I personally keep this turned off as it seems to still be too aggressive and pulls my accuracy off. It's a subtle thing, but you can see it working if you look for your screen to follow the center of the enemy nearest your crosshair.
Deadzone: I believe the Deadzone is only for the Motion controls. This is the area in the "neutral" position where the PS3 doesn't pick up any movement information from you. Some people like this a little larger as they move their hands, or joysticks, further/faster than others. Making the deadzone smaller might cause jerky movements when yous witch from left<->right, up<->down.
Try playing several rounds with the settings and tune it to your playstyle... most of this is just trial and error at this point :)(well and Testing of-course ;))

Thx for the aiming part.
Googled "shrooms" and got nada. I'll make the Deadzone as big as possible then as small as possible and see if I can figure how things change. I hope those kids don't start yelling at me on their mics while I do it.

Doh! You're right. It's under the Motion Controller's options screen. Sorry. I told you I'm an idiot.
Thx to both of you again, now get off my grass!

So instead of Shrooms or nipples, why not just say Analog Controls, or since he's older, joysticks.

because they are usually called literally Tatti on my native not "analoginen ohjainsauva" hence I prefer a short hand, besides they look identical to mushrooms.
And yes I'm cranky because I haven't had my coffee yet. |

Oh. I get it now. You have to speak slowly to me sometimes.
Thx!

They're called analog sticks, and what the "deadzone" setting does is affect how much you have to move them before the movement actually translates to in-game control.
This SHOULD be much lower for sixaxis and mouse control than we can currently set it, because it's built as a Move-friendly option.
In fact, all the control scheme settings seem to be interconnected. Inverted control on the sixaxis page is also the mouse invert option, and the deadzone setting in Move affects all control schemes, and while Move players get a separate crosshair sensitivity, your turn speed is afffected by the sensitivity settings on the sixaxis controller page. |

Thx! That is worth thoroughly investigating.

Yeah, for this build I ended up lowering the sensitivity for my controller down to 10 for X & Y. It seems that with high sensitivity I move it slightly it moves a great deal. I'd prefer that the farther and longer I hold my analogue stick, the more sensitive it becomes. Simply tapping it all the way to one side shouldn't move a ton, however holding it all the way to one side it quickly accelerates the movement. Hope that makes sense. I usually play Xbox, and I will have to dig up my Halo 3 and CoD to compare. If CCP can nail the controls to be as tight as I remember those games, that would be great.
Btw, I should be getting my XCM Cross Battle Adapter any day now which will allow me to play Dust514 with the highly superior Xbox 360 controller. I will post my thoughts after we get back from vacation in September. |

i dunno whats going on while shooting full auto while ads, but i find it easier in dust if i go slightly off target with my aim, to adjust by moving the left stick (walking) than adjusting the aim with the right stick, only while shooting. i never have to do this in any other fps i ever played on console, just doesnt feel right to me yet |
