Tonight I discovered a method that allows a merc to farm up WP during a match while contributing nothing to the fight. It works best during skirmish battles, and it can be done with militia gear.
1. Request an LAV near your team's initial spawn point, far away from enemy fire. 2. Crash it into nearby objects until it is on fire. 3. Hop out and use your repair gun on it. 4. Repeat steps 2-4.
This method usually generates 100 pts (around 4 ticks of Repair +25) per iteration. It also allows a merc to gain upwards of 30k SP (unboosted) per battle with a 0/0 KD record. This needs to be fixed somehow, without hurting the already sad rewards for playing as a logi.
Also, while messing around with this, I discovered that repair points are earned much faster fixing a cheap LAV than a heavily armored HAV (which is a much more impressive task). It seems the points are rewarded based on a percentage of repair done rather than actual amount of armor restored. I think this is a problem as well, since it takes about 10 seconds to fix a burning LAV, and it gives the same reward as bringing an HAV back from the brink of destruction, which takes much longer, giving little incentive to fix massive damage.
This may not technically be an exploit, but it is a cowardly way to gain SP for your merc and hurts the efforts of your team. I would like to see some kind of fix for this, but unfortunately I do not have any ideas on how to fix it without punishing those poor logi's actually repping vehicles downrange.

Solution: friendly fire?
That is interestig about the points awarded for repairing different vehicles. Were you using the militia repair tool? |

I was using the militia repair tool and the starter fit for the LAV.
Also, friendly fire does not damage the vehicles (at least it didn't for me). I tried swarm launchers, grenades, etc. and just bumping into walls was the only way I could damage the vehicles myself.
I think it should be worth a little more to repair that 250k ISK tank than the militia LAV. =P |

Well the trick to the exploit is the fact that crashing into solid object (yes even a lamppost) can damage the vehicle so the logistics can have a field day just smashing their own LAV and repairing it and just farming SP for the entire match.
Im not sure if there really is a fix for that other then an eject mechanic when you see something like that and even then that can easily be abused.. |

I agree on the problem of getting Repair +25 depending on vehicle / Installation percentage repaired. It's just not logical to scale the rewards on a percentage. Maybe AP repaired or ISK restored which will make it worth it to repair expensive stuff. |

Repairs should be awarded by how many points are repaired, not the percentage of points that you have repaired. It takes quite a while to heal a heavy but you get the same amount of WP for repairing a scout. |

Exactly. More work for the same reward seems a little broken to me. |

The solution is to provide a repair SP cap to free LAV's.

I would like to point out that repair based on HP rather than percentage would also mean that if we repair something, but not enough to gain points, it will carry over to the next thing we repair. That ways the points gained for repairing is per match, not on a unit-by-unit basis. |

Personally, I would say NO points for repairing non enemy damage. Learn how to drive, not running into stuff recklessly. However some degree of 'occupational' hazardous duty damage occurs, yes. Fix it. A team player should not expect much for this, as he should be in the thick of things reparing damage caused by the enemy... |

I agree with you. I just wanted to point out there is currently a way to gain a lot of SP while not helping at all, and in coming to that realization I found the whole reward system for repairing is slightly... Wrong. |

I'll put it to you this way: I spent an entire skirmish doing that. I was 0/0 KD, did not fire a shot, and never left the starting spawn area, and gained over 30k SP for that battle. |

30k sp is really not that much, especially as we are getting 4x sp at the moment, sp when the game goes live your looking at 7k or so sp for spending 20 mins doing it.
people will get bored doing it i think but i like the ida of basing repaired WPs on isk value per HP. |

4X times SP? Lol you maybe get around 40-50 grand SP in a match during your first 2-3 hours. After that it decreases drastically and you gain only 9-10 grand. In the last build you could easy get in your first games around 300-400 grand SP. That got toned down alot. |

That don't change the fact that the game's still giving out 4x the SP it's going to at launch.
The skill system is going to be very, very, very similar to EVE where it takes months to get basic skills, a year to specialize and years to be good in multiple disciplines.
Regardless of how funny you find it, its a fact that we're getting 4x SP per match at the moment, while we're in BETA. I understand the point you're making and you're right, it is kinda an exploit, but in the grand scheme of things and how you level in this game it's really not going to be viable come launch. |

Actually, we're not running 4x SP any more. That's why the amount we're earning has fallen off so sharply from the last build. |

Yeah. i've just read up on it a bit more and i'm man enough to hold my hand up when i'm wrong.
I do think the game gives out too much SP though, i'd personally like to see it cut by half at the least, that would make things like this less of an exploit too. |

Um, I started before the 8pm diminishing returns reset and I was making 2000 sp for going 6 and 1 and tossing out 6 nano hives, and capturing 2 points and a resupply.
I am going to say I strongly disagree with the halving of SP.
I understand drop links giving +25, and I understand revives getting +60, why does giving ammo, the actual tools for killing the enemy aka nano hives only give out +10 unless the friendly leaves the bubble and goes back in....unless it is +10 per tick? |

The easiest solution is to not give points for repairing an unoccupied vehicle. Adding diminishing returns to similar actions such as consecutive repairs on the same objects would not be amiss either.
Some might say this would hurt spider tanks, but it doesn't really hurt that much if you keep your friends alive to keep killing. |

that's why i don't think the exploit is all that bad. it requires someone to sit and grind the entire match just to get a little extra sp.
if it bothers you and see someone doing it, just steal their car. we can regulate that **** ourselves. |
