Dunno what that Halo game is, but the LAV controls are a bit bad.
In general they work pretty OK, except when you want to do sharp turns, it's very difficult to get it to turn the wheels fully with no acceleration. The breaking comes into play too quickly, while it really should have a dead zone for the breaks when the stick is at the extremes of left or right. |

I was thinking the same thing (although I was worried about starting a PS3 v Xbox thread).
For those who don't know, the vehicles in Halo work as follows:
The right stick lets you look around. The left stick up and down moves you forwards or backwards, relative to the direction you're looking. If your vehicle isn't facing the direction you are looking it turns so it is.
I can't remember if it applies in Halo but the left stick left and right could potentially strafe if you're in a vehicle that could support it. |

So basically the driving controls you're suggesting are an exact replica of the walking controls? I'm against this. I don't know how the game dynamics are different with Halo but I constantly use the option of being able to look sideways to my driving direction. I think the LOOK and MOVE sticks should stay seperate.
As for acceleration control, maybe we could make it more like the dropship controls and use L1 and L2 for forward and reverse.
Edit: I wrote the following post which is also relevant. |

No need to make multiple posts.
All I want is acceleration/reverse on one stick and steering on another. Accel on stick lets me fine tune my speed, and steering on the right , you know, lets me go where I need to go. |

And let me ask you my dear sir... When you drive your real life car down the road. Do you always have your gaze fixed at 12 o'clock? How do you avoid hitting people that way? How do you check traffic when passing an intersection? Does a fixed gaze really not seem bad to you? |

It needs to be that far to fit even the vaguest semblance of a human's peripheral vision into a TV screen.
You need to be able to look around MORE than you would in real life when using a screen to see. |

Humans can turn their heads IMMEDIATELY. You give me that mouselook option, like such exists on PC, and I'll be happy, because 'turning' your view while driving with a Gamepad is... both inefficient, and kind of silly. Better than not having the vehicles, of course.
As it is, I prefer the Halo style too, if we could have it, as it 'feels' right when riding vehicles. But I won't be too upset if it's gone, if I could have my fast mouselook. Likely we will get neither. |

No its not the same at all . The left stick is the acceleration and the reverse and the right stick is the camera/steering( the front wheels move left or right , if you move the camera left or right) . So if you look left and accelerate the vehicle will turn left or if you look behind you and press forward the vehicle will turn around. The way its is in dust both acceleration , reverse , and steering is both in the left stick and right just control the camera. This is view how it works in combat here and here . I don't think it'll quite work the same way because the physics are different buts its the same idea . If you think about it works the similar way you control the infantry. |

Yes i think LAV controls should be like HALO tbh One stick for all forms of movement is not good for majority of players, at least have options CCP
should have 3 vehicle configs AT LEAST 1. Current one (obviously vehicle physics and **** still needs to be tweaked as well as the controls) 2. HALO one shown in vids 3. Battlefield one as well
on top of having FULLY customizable controls for vehicles as well cuz i know mappable controls are coming but infantry dunno if vehicles are the same |

Right,
Also, when you're carrying a gun do always have to look right where your gun is pointing? arrr I won't accept this motion mechanics, I want one stick to point my gun, another stick to look around and another stick to move around, that's the way I do it in real life and that's the way it should be in games, arrr!! |

This isnt real life, this is a video game, and halo style controllers would make LAV more enjoyable (read, FUN) to use. It would also provide the driver with a little bit more situational awareness than the current controls. I prefer to drive in 3rd person, but don't because I can't exactly have the camera stay straight with the cars heading, making control difficult, so I use the first person view, which makes me rely on a gunner for all of my driving situational awareness. |

lol why is this even a discussion tbh CCP provide options like i stated above and be done with it personally the LAV handling currently blows and the 1 stick for everything blows as well some may like it but dont force it on everyone, other games do vehicles alot better....Halo, Warhawk/Starhawk, Battlefield
same with HAVs and dropships |

I totally agree, man.
As I said, it should be this way, left stick accelerates/breaks, right stick moves the front wheels, mouse would look around.
You get the best of all words. |
