Right now buying skills are confusing new players that I have tested the game. It's a wierd 3 step process with muliple pages. Why ? Let ne give some advice on what you should do.
Make the skill system navigatable in a tree mode. With all skills connected by lines based on what unlocked what. Look at the way 100's of other 4x space sims have translated list skills into optional tree modes that help new players figure out what skills unlock what.
Next when a players clicks a skill RI buy it, it should buy and inject. Next if you have enough sp to get it level 1 it should promt you and give you the option to quickly and easily inject and have your 5% bonus to weapon range. Why are you going out if your way to make the game unneedly hard. It can still be complex and cost money and isk.
Or you could just include the sp in the cost of the skill book purchase and have it start at level. Who would let a skill sit at zero when sp cones in faster than isk interns of buying skills. You'll have the sp to inject and level to one. Make it easy !!
Phone auto correct grrr will fix later |

" That's a great idea, until it comes time that you want to buy skill books UNUSED and sell them on.
If buying the book automatically uses it, you can't do that, and it SHOULD be a viable option"
What if I told you I'm talking about the skill page not the market. You can allready buy skill books. If your also saying you should be able to buy just the book in the skill window then maybe the skill section in the market should be removed. Having two menus do the same thing is imo odd. If you open the skill window your looking for spending ep, when you open the market you're looking to spend isk.
Those three steps are too much. I want to press one button in a clear sci ri looking skill tree. There could a simple 5 pieces of a circle around each skill icon to show what level its at. Highlighting a skill and click should open a show info that doesn't cover up the skill selection. Keep show info to the left side of the window. |

It's at the core of eve being joked as looking like a spread sheet. Lots of famous 4x games like Galaxtic civ 2 use both a spread sheet and skill tree view. The system is the same but you interface with something that makes sense to humans |

As long as you can spend sp to level up skill in the certificate window sure.
I think the issue us in eve the skill system is over time. Here its passive. You spend points, lord of ganesh have upgrade screens less confusing than stay while being just as complex. |

Dante Daedrik wrote:Eligible skill books when bought through the Skill List should have the option like the previous build "Purchase & Use Skillbook" but when bought through the Market, it should only be Purchase. Bingo! see? someones a smart kid.

I still agree about buying books and and leveling up skills ... but if CCP wants to try and focus more on the FPS users, I'd recommend a skill tree.
Skill tree allows people to view ahead of times requirements for certain skills as well as help them determine the path to choose. Not needed for release of course but just a thought anyways ... it be the same system in the end, just a different way to display it all
huzzah! That's forward thinking. |

Bump. Dust doesn't have to look like eve to have the same complex skill systems. There are better ways. |

I've played eve since beta. It's fine for the game is it. It's not fine for dust. I don't want dust less complex, less confusing UI does not equal less complex.
Why would I buy a skill book, in the skill screen, not the market screen" if I didn't want to have that skill at level 1 when I purchase it. It literally adds NOTHING. It doen't make dust more complex to have stupid 10 year old mechanics. It's fine for eve, but it seems clear it'll be NPC skill books all the way. At least for now, non npc skill books can you bought on the market or found as salvage.
Whats the point of letting us buy and sell skill books anyways? I mean it makes sense in eve, but in dust? |
