Speaking from my experience with the 2.0 build, running a vehicle requires most of your SP going towards that vehicle(same as any class), i.e. the HAV. Meaning, that was my primary class, I had no infantry fittings worth running because I couldn't afford the SP cost to unlock them. Now that everything is so expensive and we are apparently making less ISK/SP, specializing in vehicles (HAVs in particular) is pointless and damn near impossible. The turret tracking speed has been essentially cut in half, the marauders have lost their damage modifier, all of the modules cost WAY more as well as the HAV itself, and to top it off the militia HAVs aren't BPO anymore, meaning if you lose all of your good tanks you have to spend over 100,000 ISK on a paper tank that disappears when it's destroyed, so you don't have anything to fall back on(except the starter dropsuits).
So what is the point of having vehicles in the game if you are going to make it so difficult to actually use them? That was one of the cool things about the last build, a match could go from being a plain old shooter to being a full blown battlefield with tanks and air support in a matter of seconds. Losing a vehicle wasn't as big of a deal because they didn't cost over a million ISK a piece. Now it would be well over 2mil ISK to run a well fit Sagaris. What's the point? What incentive does anyone have to even unlock them when you have to play on foot for days to make up the cost of losing one. What's the point when it also means you are making yourself less effective on foot by spending the SP to unlock the necessary skills for HAVs?
And before the trolls kick in and start bitching about my post. Have you noticed that ALL of the high end gear is ridiculously expensive now? How do you plan on supporting your proto gear now (I know you guys used these in the last build)? I'm not saying that a marauder needs to be invincible or anything, just make stuff cheaper, yes, even the annoying forge guns.
The way this game is going now, it seems as if most people will be spending most of their time running around in starter gear just to be able to afford one or 2 games with the good stuff equipped. I know that supposedly when you start using higher end stuff you start making more ISK, but considering how little I am making now, I don't expect the amounts I'd be making later to be enough to sustain high end gear. Unless you are just that good that you never die. So in that sense, the people who aren't omnipotent gamers will be essentially forced to use starter gear. I can't think of anything that would make this game less fun than having to constantly go back to newbie gear.
At this rate, this game will be more like HALO than the awesome MMO it could be. |

I'm not seriously suggesting removing vehicles or expecting it, or wanting it to happen for that matter. I just want to make the point that it's impossible to specialize in vehicles in this build. So why would they even have them in the game if they want it to be that difficult to use/sustain them. |

It's not about working for it or not working for it. The issue is that to be able to run a decent vehicle you have to sacrifice your ability to fight on foot. So nerfing vehicles or making them ridiculously expensive to use means that no one will be able to use them. And anyone who does won't be a very effective player as they will have to spend most of their time fighting in a substandard loadout just to be able to afford the thing they have specialized in. |

1. vehicles should be expensive as they are very powerful....stop moaning
2. yes ALL high end gear should be expensive that helps preserve some sort of BALANCE as vets stomping around in hisec wont be able to fund their proto fetishes all the time
3. the game is risk/reward....i never expected high end gear to be used in pub games but only really brought out for IMPORTANT MEANINGFUL fights like for over a system or something
stop QQing if u lose a Black Ops HAV it should hurt thats the risk vs reward factor

EVE doesn't make you go it on foot when you lose a ship. You just buy another ship, even if it's a crappy one, and go kill some rats or do missions until you can afford a decent one. How does the saying go? If you can't afford to lose it, don't fly it. It's ridiculously expensive to buy a decent HAV so why would anyone want to spend the SP to be able to drive one? And lets face it, you don't die nearly as much in EVE as you do in DUST. Yes I have played EVE. Do the math, it takes over 20 games of ~50,000 ISK rewards to pay for one marauder, and that doesn't include the modules.
So the point is, your SP is better spent on skills that affect infantry. If you split those skills into vehicles, your merc will be weak because of it. There is no reward there. Only risk, and a weak ass character because you split up your resources.
I'm not saying it should be easy to get a marauder, or black ops HAV. All I'm saying is that for what you have to sacrifice to use it, you should be able to sustain it to some degree. Losing a Sagaris in the last build hurt, losing one in this build sets you back DAYS, making them pointless to use. |
