It's called PS3 Safe Mode, http://us.playstation.com/support/answer/index.htm?a_id=1488 there is a video walkthrough as well
everyone who is experiencing ANY issues should try this
my recommended options to perform are 3 & 4, Restore File System and Rebuild Database:
3. Restore File System - Attempts to repair all areas on the hard disk drive where files can be saved. Corrupted data may be erased if it cannot be recovered.
4. Rebuild Database - Deletes messages, playlists, changes made on [Information] screens, trimming information for pictures in [Photo], video thumbnails, video playback history and video resume information. This operation may take a long time depending on the type and number of data items.
edit: i want to add that it may also be beneficial to delete your game save data, not the game itself. i've seen other threads where this also helped people with issues so i wanted to post it here as well. when you delete the save data it only resets your options in game, sensitivity, sfx, mic and ptt, etc. |

Well, I have seen my system crash on several occasions and watched it do a rebuild but when I followed the restore system direction and did it from the safe mode I actually saw a message telling me the system file was corrupted and would be restored.. that is a first, now to see if it helps at all.. |

To the poster above me, the corrupted file message is a default message and says that every time you run safe mode, and is generally directed to pay it no mind by the sony tech support if you should call them up.
Ran safe mode last night, yanked my HDD out the ps3 this afternoon, hooked it up to pc ran drive tools... no bad sectors. Factory seek times, no stuttering......in other words good drive health.
Router is configured with ps3 in DMZ by MAC address.
First game at about 8:15pm eastern time Friday Aug 24.... instant battle .... sat in the initializing menu for 10 minutes while eating a snack, left.... O exit, tried to enter another battle after 2 minutes..... oh nice it is an already in progress 4 point skirmish instead of tdm....spawn on D....Invalid Dropsuits across the board.
Able to XMB quit.
Turn off ps3, power cycle my modem and router. Decide to take ps3 out of router DMZ and try straight Upnp.
First game Instant Battle, thrown into a 5 point skirmish with about a minute left in it, spawned in time for it to end. After 10 minutes of looking at the controller on the way back to the merc quarters, I had to xmb quit again. At which point the ps3 reset partially resulting in the blinking green light, had to hold down power button for 2 minutes to trigger off.
9:00pm Router now with the ports open for dust and the sen/psn, SPI firewall off First game after restart , Instant battle 5 pt skirmish again, facing 2 tanks at c & b with players that don't have AV loadouts, so needless to say I tried to get close enough with my grenades to actually hit them and got slaughtered, needed to buy more suits mid game, market crashes the buttons don't work the circle just keeps spinning, xmb quit surprisingly still available.
9:15pm PS3 back in router DMZ by MAC address, and freshly re-started. Friend wants to group up, we make a 2 man squad. We launch a game, instant battle, it leaves them in the merc quarters, I quit from the intializing to re-join them and try again. The system message appears in the upper right corner in red letter, connection to host lost.... I am back in the merc quarters though and I can still use all the buttons to try again I didn't freeze with only the select button working.
We both re-start and we are able to complete one.... hurray. Second game, instant battle, TWO in a row, TDM. However now I have an extra chat channel in the form of Two Team chat channels, which I don't realize till after I press the instant battle, it fails to launch and results in the start button and the rest not working with the prompts on the consoles in the merc quarters.
10:00pm After another fresh restart of the game for the both of us, he gets the invalid suits.
10:15pm After another fresh restart of both the ps3 and the game, I get the invalid suits
10:20pm I give up and he goes to play another game on pc in beta |
