I'm sure, eventually, DUST will get a character creator like EVE Online does which allows the player to create faces for their characters. Don't know when, don't know how exactly they'll manage to get those very detailed faces to display at times (I have an idea, but I don't know for sure if they will do what I am thinking) when maybe the character is interacting with others on a War Barge (there was a screenshot where there was a DUST merc, without a helmet covering his head, in the Command Center on the Warbarge, that will probably be where people can see each other's faces ingame and not by just looking at their avatars).
I started a similar thread back in October 2011 on the dust514.org forums, I asked if DUST could possibly could get the CARBON character creator (which is used to create EVE character portraits). I gave some examples of what DUST players could create for their avatar/character in the character creator (I didn't make them, they're renders of characters from a CG film released ages ago called).

"I don't know about getting CARBON character creator. I don't know the specifics behind it, but the system is built to be modular, meaning that they can attach it easily to other stuff. So it's a possibility. I actually think that it would be possible to have on the PS3 as the rendering of the portraits is done server side by CCP.
And thirdly, yes, I would love to have the ability to show off our cool gear in our portraits. That would be awesome, and like you said, possibly the mark of a veteran. Especially if we can customise the look of the gear ourselves."
So, I guess it's not entirely impossible. |

Mercs on the ground should not have a gender but clones on the war barge could look however. |
