Just for general consensus and knowledge, who is gonna have more than 1 character and why? Now I mean more than 1 character on 1 account, not multiple accounts, which still doesn't make sense to me. Course I could be wrong, but it seems that like Eve, having more than 1 character on an account is shooting yourself in the foot.
In EVE you can only train 1 character at a time per account. So the other characters are kind of just sitting doing nothing as far as skill advancement goes.
In DUST it seems you make passive SP and then bonus SP when playing in matches, which is nice. And while you could technically start a Sniper, Assault, and Heavy Character at the beginning, and be better than most for the first month or so, you would lose your advantage after the first 3 months or so.
The way I see it, If you have 3 characters, that's 3x you're gonna train gunnery, mechanics, engineering, electronics, etc because those are base skills for all character classes. And that's 3x the amount of games you have to play per day, to keep up with someone only playing one character. The one character in the long run as more SP faster and can be more fluid than your 3.
So Im just asking for common knowledge. You gonna have 1 character or 3? |

I'm still in the "testing builds to see what works" phase, so I'll probably use those second and third spots during the beta. In the full game, however, I plan on having one character and one character only. |

Im using more than 1 during the beta myself. My whole question was for after the release.
What doesn't help that much Lurch? And yes I know there will be spies and all that. I wasn't getting into Corp Politics and Relations, Im simply stating from a "Main" character point of view I suppose. Is anyone gonna try and run 2 or 3 different characters or just 1? |

I'll most likely only use one myself... But I do have friends who come by and I might let them use a character slot as they have a 360 and not a PS3... After the game is fully released I mean...
But yes, will only use one, beta testing combos at the moment... |

If manufacture comes to DUST it could be similar to Eve, only reason I could think of other than your espionage idea.
I have 5 Eve characters because you can only use 11 manufacture slots at a time, so with 5 characters you can have 55 slots, I don't use them all, some are just corp holding and regional market spotters. The point is there though, if you get something that works like manufacture in eve where you can only do so much with max skills, then second and third characters could be trained to share the task and be able to do more at once, not saying just manufacture, maybe other stuff we can't even think of yet. |

If passive SP works like in eve, only one character gets it at a time. That'd kind of suck, but make sense. If every character got passive SP, we'd all have manufacturing alts. |

I could see me using more than one toon if it meant I could have more market orders, manufacturing slots, research slots, or some form of passive isk. Or if they also end up having faction standings, then I'd have one where I don't do anything for a faction and another where I would. |

All good points. I don't know if all toons will get passive SP. I tend to lean toward they won't since you can't train more than one at a time in EVE, and I can see that pissing off some EVE players.
I never got into the Manufacturing/Mining Side of EVE. So I don't even consider that whole point of view. Which is why I asked my question. Wanted to see what other people thought. So yes from the Manufacturing Side I can see more than one character per account. |

I hope they allow multiple toons passively training simultaneously. It will be helpful for having different "specialist" toons: 1 for my weapon specialist (not sure what I want to go yet), 1 for piloting vehicles, and 1 for whatever else. Will help get good groups together and allow people to switch it up without switching around the team members as much. |

I will certainly use all 3 slots. Even if I will probably have a "main", there can be many uses for secondary characters :
* Enjoying different gameplays * Learning how others play, so you get better on your main (know your enemy), and you can become a better leader * Fast relocalisation * Spying
I would put emphasis on relocalisation. On the closed beta, everything happens on a single planet. But DUST will occur in New Eden, which is a huge galaxy. We will probably not be able to travel it instantly back and forth. So we may have to leave a sentinel character at home while our assault character is going into a war far away... |

Imagine having to contract an Eve pilot to courier your clone where you want to go, could be tricky if that ship had to fit a clone vat bay, not many ships can fit that module, only capitals if I remember, so how could you move in highsec !? Interesting subject as Eve already has the facility to carry clones in ships but only in nullsec, couriering your dropships and other stuff would be simple enough but they may have to bend some lore told move your clone around or maybe seed a highsec DUST clone module or even a specialist freight container for them. |

I'm pretty sure spying won't be a major use of this feature, just because I'm fairly sure it shows your PsnID no matter which character you're on |

It all sounds good. Ill probably just stick to one character. Id rather have one flexible character than a bunch of specialized characters, although if you want to go the other way, that's your choice. Lots of different perspectives I see. |

i am going to make 3 chars but only use one of them, i will end up saving the other two chars for later on when I need to get a char to do a very specific job that my main cannot easily accomplish. but this is not until launch that i will do this. |
