So this is a space shooter, kinda. Still more MMO than FPS, which should be changed around if you ask me... but, I digress. I like space MMO FPS' anyway it turns out, mostly because of the sci-fi aspect of it.
So I was going to work today, and my still dreamy mind thought up something that I thought would be fun for Dust.
So Earth, the planet we live on, has a 1.0 gravity. Most of us know this. The moon, being much smaller, has a gravity of 0.167 and Mars in between has a gravity of 0.38.
I guess most of us has also seen the moon jumping, how lower gravity affects things. I was thinking it might be an interesting thing to have added into Dust, the possibilities are many.
Bunny jumping would become the norm obviously, maybe have a progressively worse turning rate when you're in air to add some realism and difficulty.
I imagine most worlds would be between 0.9G and 1.1G which wouldn't make any difference at all, but I think it would be cool to go from all these matches, then to a moon with low gravity. Bunnyjumping your way on the surface of the moon, and when you get to a structure, then there could be an artificial gravity within the structure bringing it to 1.0G inside. Take the building normally, and bunnyjump to the next building. Or for lulz, find the gravity projector inside the building and blow it up
Do I expect this to be implemented? Not really. Do I think it would be fun? Yes, but more as a novelty thing like "oh, look, it's a low gravity moon, let's go have fun there for a few matches".
So, what do you guys think? |

It would be fun but I would imagine that Gas planets would be an absolute ***** as they're generally larger and - thereby - more gravity. |

Unless I'm mistaken they have considered adding gravity on planets at some point. |

i thought gravity was already in? i mean, did any of you drive LAV's during the first few builds? hittin a hill you could get some good fly time! |

Last I heard, the stats on Eves planets are pretty random. They'd need to fix those... Which wouldn't be too hard. But it'd be a fun concept. |

Still can, and gravity has very strange effects on mid-air LAV's. Ever noticed how gravity seems to have a wobbly effect on the LAV, slightly below the center of the vehicle? It's almost like it's balanced on a post or something.
Edit: Maybe still can? I haven't driven an LAV in Precursor yet.
Back on topic, it wouldn't really be that hard to have planetary gravitation. All you have to do is make a line of code that tells the game "On planet A, gravity effects models at 100%" "On planet B, gravity effects models at 80%". I'm no coder, so I'm not sure what said code would actually look like, but I have seen videos of game developers playing with gravity, and it really is just as simply as changing one value in a line of code. |

They used to but CCP hired an actual astrologist to handle a script that fixed the astronomical data (temperatures and such) at the same time as CCP improved the planet graphics. |

I am all for this idea provided that no matter how heavy or light the gravity there will be ways to get around it via automatically or manual process.
Example of automatically LAVs deployed on low gravity worlds get a down thruster rocket to keep it glued the ground
Examples of manual process. Skillbooks of Gravity Control Units And a universal Module that works in either low or light and alters the suits performance to get closer to earth like, instead of two which would unnesecialry make more fits than you really need.
Unfourtuantely minmatar would be the worst effected by this change as most of thier weapons have bullet drops so well need other things to account for that.
and Ultimately
CCP asked eve online players thier opinion on this matter.
Most of us said yes.
Also lets not forget temperature.
Some planets might be sweltering hot and others a bit cold. |

they need to fix moons not all of them can be barren. |

I think the issue with moons is the low gravity makes holding atmosphere hard, solar wind blowing it away. So no life or weather, still resources to fight over. Large moons may be big enough for weather/life. Some are lava/ice surely, I don't see why not. The vast majority would be barren.
Planets are all assigned gravity already, hello 200m grenade throwing and that sagaris just flew over the dropship. Mercs may charge EvE corps a premium for fighting in weird conditions? |

GAS planets are not SOLID they are a ball of gas thats it, usually very hot places full of very nasty compounds. atmosphere that crushes anything, (1000x earth gravity) they are super massive. you cannot send a duster to a gas giant. its just that a ball of gas bound by gravity. gas planets when hot enough form into Stars .
low gravity. so you can jump a little longer/higher. but what else is affected, hmm ammo from your weapons. you aim for a headshot and shot down a local orbiting satellite / eve player, either way someone is going to be a angry bear. you shoot your tanks main weapon, and send your tank into sub orbit.
lets be fair gravity in games mimics earths, those that have these floaty things etc etc end up a gimic game played for a month and sold to your dumb mate for a fiver. i do not want to be able to superjump or none of this shizzle. have to worry about sending a tank into orbit. or shooting my AR and finding a big eve-online space ship crashing into my face. |

Not quite as radical as you might think. CCP have previously stated that this is one of many parameters that can, and will, play with in future expansions. Most planets seem to be about Earth standard, give or take perhaps 25%. But in the future there are planets the size of Jupiter, with a gravity field to match... |

Well you have to keep in mind that the effects of gravity are relative to your distance from the object in question. Since gas giants are so dense, its likely that any facilities we'll be fighting on will be in the extreme upper atmosphere, where the gravity would be inconvenient rather than a game breaker. And as to whether or not we'll see it, might that be a reason why we're only seeing Temperate planets for the first release? From the evidence we have at this point, it looks like most Terra-type planets sit in a similar size range, so the other planet types would open up opportunities for adjusted gravity once they've had a good six months to perfect everything else post-launch. |

Gas planets could also just restrict it to air to air combat. where everyone must use fighers and bombers and very few facilites would be safe to land on. |
