Hm. I'm not really sure how to begin this topic. I have a bit to say about the whole subject to be honest. Anyway want I want to talk about is the servers post update, the over abundance of servers, and lack of filters in both regards to server selecting, and functioning SEC filters (which are NOT functioning.)
First off the servers themselves, and precisely the current ones we have now. Why are the servers suddenly "singletons", by which in past build we had mass servers. You click, and it would que you up into a game. Now with the current bumble mass of unfiltered servers if a server is full you cannot join, and if a server is (well) empty you are screwed. That is a problem at the moment. Especially given the lack of options, larger player count, and filters. We need to go back to the old servers of the last build. It's easier, and causes less confusion overall. Now next on the list of problems concerning the servers is the SEC (dubbed by EVE Online players) -- which should be a form of security and seperation. As many of you have probably already begun to notice the SEC is non functioning. Yup. It does not work. We have advanced and proto gear players using said gear in high SEC areas, and if this is not ressolved by release it will be a real problem. Granted we're all getting wipes, but it still is a problem and should be taken seriously. I'm sure those same players would not want to see low leveled gear in their veteran servers where it is suppose to be a more serious area of play, and lastly we have the filters to which I have touched on already. Simple filters that all games pretty much have. This is probably the second biggest problem on the list at the moment of the concerns, and complaints I have regarding the servers at the moment. Simple features such as -- region, game mode, map, and player count -- would be helpful at the moment. Even with just those basic filters implemented.
I have other concerns, but those have more to do with there side of the servers and how they run behind the scenes such as latency, and lag for instances. Anyway I am just a concerned player. |

Well unfortunetly they are not working. Especially in the designated levels. I'm not the only one to notice this, and it's something that should be attended to and fixed. Especially for the final build and release. I'm sorry if I was somehow confusing. The SEC (Security (I believe) is a feature that needs to be functioning. I can understand if they had not implemented it for the [beta] due to wipes, or whatnot. However this is something they did introduce, and it is not working as stated. |

All are suitable answers, and simply put to answer you -- Yes. Yes, as in a suedo security filter in which it is meant to seperate the level of players by either gear, and/or skill. From how it is labled thusly I would say it is more geared towards the allowed level of gear for which a player can use. However in either case it is nonfunctioning. Though I am sure they are aware, and only left it as such at the moment till the wipe, and/or release of the final product. In either event I still thought to bring to attention and I wanted to see what other's had to say about the given situation. |

CCP Wolfman wrote:Hi
I can clarify this quickly.
We have totally overhauled our battle system this release. This was done to improve scalability and also to enable us to add awesome new features like player created squads, group matchmaking, different moods, lighting, effects and architecture in the terrain. This does however mean we donGÇÖt have all of the previous functionality yet i.e. the ability to generate multiple battles from a single battlefinder listing.
Matches joined through Instant Battle will, based on your calculated skill level, match you in to a battle with others of similar skill. ItGÇÖs worthwhile to keep in mind that it takes a few matches for the system to GÇ£find your levelGÇ¥ and we need to gather data to tune it, so donGÇÖt expect it to be perfect from the get go.
The servers that can be found in the battlefinder exist outside of the matchmade eco-system. Matchmaking essentially GÇ£ignoresGÇ¥ them and they operate solely on an honor basis. The only people that can determine the fairness of those matches currently are you, the players. Are you the type of guy that brings a prototype dropsuit to a militia fight? Do you have no shame? I guess weGÇÖll find out :-)
Cheers

Wolfman, that is a huge risk actually.
An honor system?!.. Seriously? You have maybe too much faith in the players. You should really reconsider that, and actually afford properly seperating and locking out gear to proper servers and levels. You could even create a server that is a sort of melting pot that allows for all levels of gear to be used. However the honor system is a bad idea.
Wolfman, let me give you a great qoute that fits your hopes, and faith.

See what I am getting at? I also feel the players would only making a sucker out of you if you did this. You do not want that.
As for the limited functionality? I understand and thank you for answering us on that issue. I hope to see them return sooner though rather then later. This could harm the player base as it aggravates and discourages them from playing, and/or finding proper rooms. |

They can, but the audience is different. Also considering the varying server side issues we are dealing with the numbers do not add up more often then not. Also this is not some game such as SOCOM, Call of Duty, Battlefield, or Warhawk where there is fundamental sense of balance. There should be some division. Part of the problem in Dust514 is that the numbers do not add up. I've mentioned this time and time before, but if you go soley based upon the stats of equipment there is a large sense of balance. However! Putting that to practice proves otherwise. Not because, of a difference of skill, but coupled by crippling issues. If those issues are going to go unressolved the system needs changing. You cannot just put forth an honor system. No matter what people say there are enomrous differences between EVE Online and Dust514. Enough to warrant change or thought about the current stance.
If CCP fixes the issues concerning the servers such as lag, deadzone, latency, and fix the hit detection issues, and tweek minor other variances I will have no issues. However as they stand? No. I'm not crying or griefing. I'm concerned about the games well being. Putting faith in any player base is absurd. If they want to seperate us they should as they "attempted" to do at the moment (minus the half arsed honor system). However CCP is sort of contradicting themselves. It is either seperation for the greater good, or go the route of most games in general and just throw us all in together in a suedo melting pot. I have no problems with either, but they need to choose one, and fix the problems regardless.
Prime example -- Warhawk: Early in the first year and half Warhawk sperated players by rank, and level on official servers, but ended up allowing most players to play together. Minus all but the newest of players which were granted rookie servers (even that was abused). Point is you choose one or the other. Not both. All it will do is harm the player base, cause frustration and anger, and vex the people. |
