Being an EVE subscriber I got to try the BETA. I also gave my 14 year old son who melts face at Battlefield 3 a go at it. Here are the highlights.
Very laggy at low populations. That and server drops are what usually kill a game at launch.
I immediately recognized the market system and how to loadout a dropsuit. My son who has never played EVE figured it out surprisingly quick and thought it was cool.
My son thought jump jets or hover jets for drop suits would help balance out the OP vehicles. He liked the BF3 vehicle system much better.
Both of us noticed the weapon/armor imbalance. He watched me empty an assault rifle clip into someone with assault armor at 3m, only to have them kill me while I reloaded. I watched him kill a guy with 2 shots from a psitol from 50m. We both agreed that Heavy Armor + Heavy MG=win.
He liked the training system. He didn't like the "captains quarters".
Overall we both thought the game was a long way from being ready. |

you're fighting in default/noob "militia" gear thats the equivalent of a reaper trying to fight a rupture..
alot of us have maxed out armor/weapons that we gained at an accelerated rate for testing purposes
you can't fight a heavy with assault in close quarters you have to back peddle away from a heavy and get cover, break cover spray heavy, take cover, reload, rinse repeat.. if your two close to the heavy with no way to take cover your dead
you can't go face to face with a heavy or an advanced assault at 3m especially in default militia armor
the guy he killed with the lev 1 pistol was probly in militia gear also |

I think you will have a better experience in the next build, which will be next week. As Teebow said, most people are way ahead in SP so can equip better modules than the starter militia gear. If you haven't caught the patch notes, DUST will be moving to the Sisi server as well, so stability will be better. |

It's hard to kill high skill point infantry with militia. Jumppack and glide modules would be nice, not sure how it would counter vehicles. Next build should be more even for you with reset and less glitchy/laggy. |

next build will be adding in instant battle option , if i remember correctly this will ballance the fights somewhat based on how much sp you have and your players skill level etc. wich is a much needed feature for highsec. i bet you son mentioned about the controls too. and you just forgot to type it up i personally love the merc quarters and would like to see an option to customize it, move things around, buy items off the market to put in it, invite my friends there, make it bigger etc. |

What everyone else said ... just come back for the next build due sometime between now and 21st, everyone will be back in militia gear and those that progress faster should be balanced into opposing teams or even end up in their own higher tier matches with similarly fast progressing players.
I like the idea of customizing your merc quarters, but it should at least be up to the graphics levels of the Eve station quarters by release and when walking in stations comes out for Eve it will presumably be mirrored into Dust and you'll be able to meet between platforms in the same way you'll be able to communicate with text or voice in this next patch, although this will be on the Sisi test server for now, not the main Eve server. |
