If you go and check the screenshots on their website you can spot the difference immediately.
GRAPHICS
The graphics on the screenshots rival those of PC games on high. Does anyone know why or is this the graphics we will get when this releases if so, that's another thing to look forward to.
If a Dev or GM answers my question/statement it would make my day |

I wouldn't be surprised if those screens were taken on a PC devkit. |

Possibly using an Unreal Engine cinema suite too to construct the scene. |

This would be really nice to know also.
So far Dust isn't living up to my expectations as a long time Eve subscriber. There are NO stunning visuals like the screen shots I've seen in all the CCP ads/media/hype. What gives?
Don't get me wrong I understand that they are limited to the PS3 hardware but the graphics look like this game was made 2-4 years ago. And as someone who had to borrow a PS3 just to play this beta so far I'm finding it hard to justify wanting to drop 250$$ just to play this game.
CCP we want EVE quality graphics PLEASE :D |

Its called a developer kit. They're typically much more powerful versions of a ps3 that interfaces well with computers able to help developers test the game and optimize it before trying it on a standard issue.
A typical computer CCP uses for graphics and thier own movie client has 8x SLi of the latest Nivida cards, two quad core processors (which wouldnt surprise me if they're zcores now) and 64+ GB DDR3 of memory. Its capable of running eve on the 'ultra' setting where every model is about 500mbs big has 5600x whatever resolution and just everything else cranked up beyond average PC melting capabilities.
It was powerful enough to contain the couple terrabyte big neubla's model (yes the cloudly background is originally a full 3-d model crafted by a third party studio) which is then used to make much smaller pictures inside of it to become mapped to a skysphere (eve dont use boxes) |

This!
Ok. with that out of the way, this is indeed a beta, and the last thing that are going to be set to full is the graphics. gameplay, and balance issues are more important in the long run. |

I've been in plenty of beta testing environments, and I understand this logic. However, whether fair or not, most modern games (with some novelty exceptions) are judged on their graphics. I'm sure they'll use somewhat higher resolution textures in the final release. At the same time though, especially when it gets to open beta, the public's perception of the game will be heavily dependent on both how it feels and how it looks. Even now, with the EVE playerbase having the opportunity to try DUST, players may be getting turned off by how different the trailers and screenshots look from the actual game. The worst thing that could happen to a new game like DUST is to give a poor first impression, even in beta. |

Many companies, and CCP is no exception, render trailers and screenshots at higher resolutions or using special extra effects that would not be feasible in real-time. A great example is the Dominion trailer featuring fighter-like maneuvers that are not actually possible in EVE.
That said, CCP's art department is chronically backlogged, and graphics aren't a high testing priority. I wouldn't read much into it until it hits fully public beta (if not outright release). |

Graphics in this release are noticeably better.
I would image that you could expect another coat of polish before full release. |
