Was thinking about this earlier.
Would it be possible to build in that you can kill your team mates with melee, but not with guns?
From a storyline POV, most weapons could be built with basic IFF that inhibits friendly fire, but it's hard to build an IFF into a knife!
Would give the ability, albeit a difficult task, of removing annoying people who do such things as taking installations and wasting them by pointlessly firing at the MCC, or the vile little thieves who steal your 1m isk vehicle that just got delivered. |

Read as: I want to backstab people because I don't like them, but if they backstab me, I will come back here and complain about how they are still stealing my vehicles or killing me while I camp someone else.
Enabling TK in any form will only make troll-like behavior worse. (shooting MCC, Stealing vehicles, crushing w/ vehicles)
They are already working on a 'weapon effectivness' ui component that will show people who shoot MCCs that the guns do nothing. As for Grand Theft Dropship, It has already been suggested to create 'ownership' or 'pilot' controls to kick/eject players from vehicles. |

I am pretty sure that friendly fire will be on in the final build.
CCP like it when people betray each other... Its called "emergent player driven content" and its awesome.
Without friendly fire, it is impossible for players to be bribed to betray their comrades, which removes a HUGE part of the meta game that makes EVE so different from other games.
I would be SHOCKED if CCP departed from their core philosophy enough to inhibit friendly fire and killing teammates. |

No, team killing is stupid. If you don't like your team, join another one. Simple as that. |

I have to agree with Traynor on this one. Team killing and trolling are an important part of the Eve universe and I am quite sure CCP will be sure to make it possible in Dust as well.
To Saint Panda: Sometimes it can be fun to infiltrate a group and go on a team killing spree. Imagine the depth it adds. Here is an example to for demonstrative purposes: Your corp has just gotten a very lucrative contract to attack a planet under the control of an Eve corp and take control of its massive organics mining operation there. You, along with a couple of other members of your Dust corp. temporarily leave your Dust corp. and join the corp. with the contract to defend the planet. As soon as the boots hit the ground you start unloading on your new and clueless team mates causing them to loose and your real corp to win. Its fun and profitable. |

Noted.
Correction: Enabling TK so that you may get revenge on someone who stole your vehicle or wasted time on the battlefield will only encourage bad gameplay. Enabling TK so that someone can kill you and steal your vehicle or waste your time on the battlefield will encourage EVE-like gameplay.
Corporation controls/management is how you get 'revenge' on people who aren't team players... kick them. That actually brings into question if someone can be corp-kicked during a battle? Would there be anyway to make someone a free target o every player in the battle?
In EVE, entire systems don't get locked out because there are 24 people in it. But Dust will have caps on players in game. So, I hope there are ways for CEO/Directors of a Dust corp to kick a merc out of a battle to make room for someone else.

In pick up games you will always have trolls. EIther those trolls will kill their own teammates for the lulz, or they will destroy their own CRU's or any number of other things that trolls do. You can't change that.
Preventing players from killing their own teammates removes one of the key aspects that makes Eve so much better than other games, the backstabbing metagame politics.
The example above of the guys sabotaging the other team is pretty light on the Eve spectrum where corps and alliances place spies (real players playing for the other team) for YEARS to gain their trust. These spies either just provide intel, or sometimes they disrupt things within the enemy, or even steal all their alliance assets. It has happened and it will continue to happen in New Eden.
Dust NEEDs to be able to do the same thing. Corps and alliances need to be able to infiltrate and sabotage other corps and alliances. Its that simple. One of the best ways to do that is to betray them on the field of battle at the crucial moment, perhaps allowing the enemy to take control of the Sky-Fire battery which begins destroying the other teams capital ships in orbit just in time for your team's much smaller fleet to take advantage of the situation and force the capitals from the field. This kind of gameplay is what allows smaller guys to take out larger, and brings depth and realism to the game. That is what Eve is all about.
And I reiterate, I would be SHOCKED if CCP diverged from their current design philosophy so much as to restrict players to only killing their enemies. |
