I think all vehicles should work the way Dropships currently do. If they drop below Armor and begin taking Structure damage they are disabled. No movement and maybe no guns. Once their structure hits zero then they should explode and anyone inside, or immediately around, the exploding vehicle should die a horrible flaming death.
This would line up with reality. There are many stories of Blackhawks being shot down with the occupants still surviving. Same with modern Tanks and Hummers. So if someone hits a Dropship or HAV with a Militia Swarm and knocks it down to 50% structure then it should be disabled and players have a chance to bail. But if that same Dropship or HAV gets hit with a Proto Forge Gun that instantly knocks it down to 0% structure then it should explode, killing everyone, and the Forge Gunner reaps +50 for all the charred corpses inside.

That is why a Dropship, upon hitting zero armor, will fall from the sky and no longer be drive-able. It hasn't blown up yet and its turrets still work, but because it has taken Hull damage it can't move. Only when people continue firing at it when its on the ground does it finally explode, and that's because it's Hull (which we don't see on the UI) hit zero.
It's the same with Dropsuits; when your armor hits zero you become incapacitated and are prompted to suicide - but you're not dead yet. That's because your suit has taken Hull damage and has become unusable. If people continue firing at you when you're on the group you will eventually die when your suit's Hull hits zero. |
