I know there are many threads on grouping already, but let me speak my piece. We need grouping in this game beyond Corp battles, otherwise the more casual players, and even the corp guys on days off, will get upset over playing with random people. Plus, many people seem to think of grouping as OP. As laughable as it sounds that a group of people who are working together might have a slight edge over the space-gun toting equivalent of beheaded chickens, we need it in early to see just how it might be OP, or whatever. We need to be able to gauge the effectiveness of a premeditated assault by a cooperative, cohesive group. Even if it DOES grant some greater power over randoms, ask yourself this: would you be happy if you could go into battles and do guaranteed awesome, plus have people there you know you can rely on/brag to? People grouping might be more powerful than a random herd, but its for that reason we need to test it. Who knows, maybe a dropship with personal gunners could turn the tide and crush Sagaris's. Maybe an LAV with the right combination of passengers could be more frightening than any HAV. Maybe having a dedicated Logi guy within a specific team buildup will prevent equipment loss in 99% of scenarios. Hell, maybe the Scrambler Pistol and the Swarm Launcher, when fired in tandem, obliterate prototype scouts. We need to be able to test these further than 'Who's on mics?', followed by 'What do you use?' and 'Would someone gun for me?'. |

Johnny Guilt wrote:doesn't grouping usually screw up the balance of matchmaking? Well, we don't have matchmaking right now. Everyone just jumps into the same hopper and gets dropped into games by availability and a certain amount of random chance. |

Johnny Guilt wrote:doesn't grouping usually screw up the balance of matchmaking? i think it will screw it up a bit but maybe have like a none group server for beta (not for launch) so the people that are starting out can play a game without getting redlined the whole time and with grouping it would be balanced because the big corps will be playin together. as soon as it goes in there are gonna be some good fights. maybe they might have eve corps put that into the contract like options would be 1. anyone 2. corps 3. private |

This is not supposed to be a balanced match game.
We will be fighting over persistent zones on planets with pre made groups of players who make up the ground armies of major space faring alliances in Eve.
This is NOT an arena style matched game where balance is important. This is a team game where community and teamwork are important.
Arguing against grouping is like arguing against DUST in its entirety and shows just how little you know about what this game is about.
If you don't know anything about this game, watch this |

wow just wow group OP.......
Anyway I think grouping should be tested SOON(tm) so we don't have a similar incident to the mic situation currently. Could you imagine the game putting your best tank pilot on the other team when you try to enter the match as a party?
Or perhaps he gets put on your team but can only do damage to friendlies. That would seriously suck!
Crazy stuff happens when things first get introduced. Plus I want to give feedback on parties and grouping. That is one thing for me honestly that doesn't seem to change with any FPS. I want more from cooperative game play. This game is the game that is make or break for me on FPS Multiplayer. So far so good sure there are problems but those things are getting fixed and the balance and bugs in this build were greatly improved from the last build.
The Next build is hopefully going to have the same jump in overall quality of play.
All I'm really saying is cooperative game play must be done differently than the run of the mill FPS. Proper chains of command and the like. Corporations within Dust must have the same functionality as Eve but also have some features that tailor it to how FPS are played. If it's going to be similar to Eve then that will be decent. I'm really looking forward the next build and I'm really enjoying this build so far.
I'm crossing my fingers, squinting my eyes and whispering "Do a good job" "Do a good job". Personally I have high expectations although I feel they are reasonably attainable by the great DEV team spearheading this giant.
Lastly I'm not saying I don't trust the Dev team there is literally NO other company I would trust more than CCP to make a game like this. I've always been a huge fan of what CCP does. Even when the company has a slip it turns it into a waterslide thats fun! lmao. |

Playing with random people, most of whom wouldn't know teamwork if they stepped on it, is making not feel like playing lately. |

Second.
Getting stuck with people who try the one-man-army stuff in a game like Dust is really annoying. |
