Couple threads about the CSM minutes and the discussion of corps in DUST with no response from any of the Devs on this matter so I thought I would start a new thread and discussion of the importance of there being corp support at the launch.
There have been several threads about Dust not being noob friendly. One of the ways to make it friendlier is to have corps. One of the functions of a good corp is to train new players and to give them a good experience so they will stick around till they understand a very complex game. Yes, I am an EVE player, what is referred to as a "bitter vet", with most of my time spent in exactly 2 player owned corps, VAF and AHARM. I know Two Step who is ex-ceo of AHARM and someone who has the best interests of the game at heart. He asked for full integration of EVE style corps into Dust and I agree.
The Dev who answered him confused two different issues or didn't understand the basic question. He said the whole thing with Dust corp ownership of districts weren't due to roll out till 2013 with the 00 expansion. We, the Dust players aren't concerned with district ownership at this time but with the social aspects of the game and being able to play with corpmates in corp battles.
Faction warfare is to be rolled out first and it is suggested that everyone join a faction to get the experience they need to eventually go to 00. Well, that is all well and good but even in EVE it is possible for a whole corp to join a faction and to fight together in those matches. Why does Dust have to settle for something less when we start?
CCP wants full integration of all the roles in Dust. Well, the only way you will get full integration of the logistic role is if there are corps. No one wants to spend the time to train up the the high end suits when there is not going to be an organization built to take advantage of it. I have been playing the beta since the second release of keys and have never been revived in a single match because there are no organized squads with dedicated support roles.
A Mag clan ceo showed up in China to talk with the Devs about Dust and they were surprised? I don't know why they would be surprised when all it would take is to google dust corp recruitment and they would see that there are tons of already organized clans and corps who can't wait for Dust to drop so they can move in-mass and start staking their claim to their part of EVE. It doesn't matter if we can't actually claim a district on a planet till 2013 but that we can have our own identity and start building our reputation.
Ad hoc squads able to stay together and play matches is not the same thing as a corp function allowing for corp battles. Corp battles are supposed to be an integral part of the game from CCP's view of where they want the game to progress but it isn't even scheduled to be in the game at the release? Only corps and organized corp battles will allow for the full integration of all the roles in Dust from the lonely sniper; to the dropship and tank drivers, to the 3 man assault groups with a logi to top off armor on the heavy.
End of wall of text. Hope to get some feedback from other players and some answers from CCP as to exactly what we can expect in the way of corp function at release. (Corp function would seem to be something pretty important for them to test during the beta period when they could get some feedback before release.) |

"A Mag clan ceo showed up in China to talk with the Devs about Dust and they were surprised?", Maybe he was suprised that he had weird stalker mag clans following him to work.

After writing my own thread on this topic I come to the conclusion that a Dev blog is on the way or something relative will be in the build.
Still would like to hear more thoughts on this myself and threads like these should always be supported .
If any of you are in to the topic of DUST Corps or CSM, I encourage you to visit DUSTUniCon.enjin.com |

^^ This. I think OP got the meaning wrong..
Also, the CSM meeting took place in May, and only came out just now. Plans have changed since then according to devs.. |

I read everything that is put out by the devs and haven't seen anything about grouping or corps for release except what was in the CSM meeting notes. I read the notes, don't know if you did and don't really understand your comment. I understand that the meeting was months ago but I also understand that the CSM doesn't meet every month, more like every 3 or 6 months |

1)Yeah, this seems to be a large oversight by ccp and a huge let down for most of us. I understand the problems they r facing with this, so I guess I can stomach it.-á I thought they would be farther along with this system. I think most of us were willing to give a little on graphics and other issues as long as we could have a strong corp and grouping system.-á 2)Faction Warfare is going to kick it off in the beta. We will be able to join NPC corps, then group up from there.-á 3)This is also worrying in the matter of contracts and obtaining isk anyway other than just run and gun.-á 4)CCP has been tight lipped recently, especially since the announcement of "three new maps" was mistaken. Even though the information has never flowed well, it seemed to come to a halt after this. This could be seen as exciting, maybe they have something big coming. Or it could be disturbing, meaning that they r just going with how things r now.-á I hope for the first idea.-á |

My alliance mates were in IRC the other day, and grouping is confirmed for the next build 90%; chance of it being in that, also they said full corp support is going to be in by launch at the latest, if not earlier in the beta.
So if you are willing to trust me, then your hopes are not without grounding. This came from a chat my alliance mates had with devs in IRC, I think they said it was CCP nothin. |

I know that these things were said on irc; however, they allowed this CSM minutes to be distributed without them commenting on it.-á
I believe that they r going to drop a huge update with a dev blog conforming what the irc chat said. I believe also that after the CSM their rears were kicked into gear on this by powers that be. Someone said: "WTF r u doing? We sold alot of ppl on this stuff. Get ur $h!t together." Just a guess and a hope though.-á |

Quote:Two step: I just worry that if you are going public with DUST, it seems like not having the ability to join corporations or clans or whatever people are used to in FPS's seems like it would be a big problem.
Two step: I just worry because the lesson you guys have learned from EVE is that players that socialize in groups stick around, it seems like you want to apply that same lesson to DUST.
CSM meeting minutes
Agree, but this was months ago. CCP has an idea and not many more then I know how many external Corps are formed around the DUST Beta (combined equals thousands of Players) |

I agree with the OP I don't want to wait until 2013 just to play with my corp. Also would prefer a grouping system because playing with randoms and know it all's is not fun! |

Yeah, it would make since for some in-vitro corps to practice up, some type of way to identify you're a group. Make a reason for people to play the supports. |

I've been hunting it down for an hour now. Went to the EVE forum too. Thought maybe I saw it there. It has "disappeared" so to speak. : / Makes one wonder. |

After reading the patch notes and thinking about them for a couple days, I thought this thread was important enough to raise from the dead.
The inclusion of ad hoc squads (4 man is the only number I have seen) is just not enough to please most of the players who are coming to this game. People want to be able to field an entire team of their fellow corp members to fight as a group. This is kind of hard to do when Dust in its present form doesn't support corps of any kind except the default ones and you might as well be playing with randoms.
There are a large number of players who have started corps in EVE for the sole purpose of getting a toe hold and the beginnings of a base of support when the game goes live. They were under the impression from all the marketing that has been going on for over a year they they would be able to create their char in Dust and immediately join a player corp if they wanted to. Thousands of those players also joined the EVE corps to get a second line of income. If there is going to no type of corp at launch then there is no reason for them to continue playing.
We understand CCP's slow roll out and integration of the market and the movement of isk between Dust and EVE but that has nothing to do with being able to play Dust as a corp. You can take till 2013-14 to get sov and district ownership worked out but that has nothing to do with being able to play the game as a corp. |

We WILL have corps before 2013. They might not have full role functionality as with Eve, etc... But they will be there. CSM notes are outdated (Almost two months old now) And plans change.

theres a difference between having corps by launch and having full EVE style corps available by launch. if corps are supposed to be one of the main selling points of the game where you can join one and become a mercenary then you would think that ccp would have released a simplified version of a corp along with REAL GROUPING where more than 4 guys which isnt even a squad could have grouped up and went into battle together. |

Someone said, here on the forum, thats corps lite are definitely in for launch. Mainly due to huge amounts of feedback from mag clans and eve players. |
