I didn't take it as a weekend to just veg out on dust (even though that is what kind of happened), i took it as a weekend to veg out on dust to find ways to make this game i am already terming "vegging out" on BETTER.
After a few games, i knew this would be huge. Already it was probably coming close to the best FPS i ever had played. Just imagining the whole eve online interaction was amazing, and thinking how immersible and intense this game is, it's just phenomenal.
Right on the first day i got into the beta (it was a saterday, and my friend lended me one saying he just plays the game nonstop), and on that day i picked up a blank notebook on my desk, got out a pen, and booted up my computer. After 4 hours i was ready to help develop this game. I made 20 pages for each type of testing category so that i could promote some feedback in the best way.
I set out these different categories by no rank, just set out very generic parts that the Developers would probably categorize, like graphical issues, server-client bugs, gameplay issues, mechanics, ui, it kept going down the road into more intricate and detailed stuff i could come up with, then i would take one very big problem (one that affects a wider scope, like i have some design ideas, or improvement ideas) one gameplay problem (something like fire range, something that could improve a smaller scoped mechanic such as the way your skillpoints are spent or vehicle manuevering) and a very small intricate problem (this could be something like very small graphical bugs, misspelled strings, etc). those 3 would be feedback ready for that beta week
i was so set to participate in this... and ready, and man i was looking forward to all the new stuff i could test out and improve on this game, until i came to find out, the beta key lasts one weekend
one weekend
so,. well, atleast i was lucky enough to be in that one weekend, and helped when i could, but i don't have the money to afford the mercenary pack. I make hardly enough as is.
When this game does come out, i will be willing to pay arm and leg, even my soul , for some AUR, (i think thats what the currency is called). i will probably spend more on this game than even my pc gaming rig i bought, i just know im going to play it for so long and get invested into it. It'l be a hobby
I'm just wondering why testers aren't allowed anymore than one weekend unless they pay money? I mean, i know CCP wants to get in a wide range of people as possible. It's not even a completed game, but i'm finding people buy this mercenary pack, and just play the beta as a full game, while i'm over here investing actual time (i work part time so dust testing is something i was ready to pickup and do) into making sure this game can be even more awesome
TL;DR: put a bunch of effort into helping give feedback to the developers, found out i'd have to buy the mercenary pack to continue testing. Trying not to make this sound like me asking to play your game more, or "begging for a key" as i've heard that before, i just want to continue to help such an awesome game :\
I'm sure that there are so many people who open up this game and just have the same feeling too, and i know that there's also people who buy the mercenary pack and just play it to get their beta character's Reputation up. (There's a few other forums for this game already, and a lot of feedback has been player-worth oriented like what k/d ratio should mean and how much points they should get for something, instead of gameplay mechanics etc.)
Thank you for reading such a detailed post, and if you didn't read the whole thing, well thank you for finding interest into this. Keep making this game awesome CCP.
EDIT: i've only looked on those blogs, i only post things about the game into this forum. I mean this is the only one the developer's constantly check, and, you know the whole NDA thing.
I think they limit the #'s to get feedback from a ton of different people, as well as keep the overall #'s lower.. as well as probably sell more Merc Packs from those fatally addicted. ;) Heck, I had a all access beta key (from the E3 event) and I still bought the merc pack, and think it's worth it. One of the things it gives you is a 30 day booster where you get 50% more SP per game, which adds up over time. Lots more, but you already want it.. just confirming it's worth it.
Maybe sell something on craigslist? cut someone's yard? I know things are tight at times, just giving some ideas. The good news is it'll be free upon release, so that's nice.
