Absolutely not....
HOWEVER, they can do what EVE did, and make some modules have insanely stupid requirements to equip, and then have certain suits give a 99% reduction to the fitting cost of that equipment... My only problem with doing this with ALL the euipment mentioned is you greatly decrease player versatility and hamstring players. The thing that makes the the Logi so cool is its the most versatile support player in the game, because it only has a single weapon type it is FORCED to be support as it should be, but otherwise its fitting capabilities totally outclass everything else... Most versatile all around? Definitely assault and rightfully so. But of course the most devastating infantry should be the heavies and they are currently not, they come close because of forge guns and ungodly armor, but right now they are relegated to using assault rifles because their heavy anti-infantry weapons have been so butchered...
Ultimately I partially agree with the OP, I think for example advanced scout suits should gain a 50-80% reduction in cloaking module use, while other Dropsuits could still equip cloaking devices it would be very very difficult for them, while the advanced and prototype scouts would be the most well suited to it. Also some of the more advanced equipment, like if logistics were ever given entrenchment equipment, such as portable area of effect shield generators, or automated AT, or anti-personnel turrets, or even sensory equipment and radar, should perhaps have 25-75% reduction in cost for logistics suits, so they can still be used by other players once again for interesting specialized roles, but so they are generally adapted for suits...
Finally certain dropsuits should eventually specialize in use for certain modules... An interdictor scout suit designed with larger scanning and field of range specialize to chase down and take out dropships, with reduced PG/CPU costs for swarm launchers, or a specialized Assault suit that gives up its side-arm and all of its equipment slots, but can equip Heavy weapons with a damage modifier of 1.2... Or for that matter a specialized Heavy which at the cost of armor either gets to equip a light and a heavy weapon, or can get one equipment module, or some such...
Point is variety of gameplay should be available, and some variants should be allowed to be OP so long as they are SIGNIFICANTLY penalized in all other aspects of their design. However, what should NEVER happen, is no one should ever tell any player in this game, "No this modules only for this suit, your assault so here's your assault rifle now go out and play =)"... This game already appears drastically dumbed down compared to EVE's complexity, and I imagine that's only because its a Beta, however, the last suggestion I will even allow to be discussed is dumbing it down even further, if anything we need a LOT more complexity. |
