You wanted to say like "dude what nonsence you writting?" or like "great idea m8"? The former., and there's countless EVE guides talking at lengths on why you should never dualtank except in very weird metagame situations.
Basically it boils down to doing one or the other tank properly, rather than both badly. When adding resistance modules it only applies to one or the other e.g. 50% shield resistance, then the shield booster gives 50% more effective HP per second but the armor repair will not. Same goes for shield extenders or amor plates.
The empty low slots on a shield tanker can either be used for damage or propulsion modules, or for increasing CPU / PG to enable fitting better shield booster, shield extenders, etc. |

It works when your mobile and you take damage to the point that when you fall back you are prepared enough to survive an ambush in your fall back position. Come to think of it though I was mainly using armor reps in the last build and had a crutch on my shield, the down side to that is that sometimes a forge gun will one shot me when I am using low end 120mm armor and my shields are gone. I was wondering if I need to pursue the armor reinforcement and reps or stay on strengthening my shields and keep either a armor or shield rep. The downside to the armor tanking vehicles is that CPU / PG modules are low-slot, so you can't use those to fit better armor tank.
Basically shield and armor tankers have different tradeoffs, e.g. shield tankers must choose between tank or gank (mid-slot weapons upgrades) while armor tankers choose between tank or speed (with 'free' weapon upgrades).
So for gallente HAV's I'd look at fitting the best plate possible, as 2-3 of the best resistance modules and a decent armor rep. Mid-slots would contain damage control unit and weapon upgrades. The point would be to achieve high effective HP as a buffer tank and high damage, which would be used for taking out targets fast and then retreating to repair if needed.
For caldari I'm fitting all PG and CPU modules in low-slots, a really good shield extender and shield booster, with 3x 25% resistance amplifiers. This fitting is much more suitable for long engagements with continuous incoming fire. |
