Comrades!
It doesn't matter what HAV you have Soma, Surya or Sagaris. If you will face hostile HAV fully loaded with gunners in 8/10 cases such encounters will turn bad for you.
Of course i'm talking about similar HAVs - for example you drive Surya alone and both missile turrets are empty suddenly you face hostile Surya fully loaded: as i said before in 8/10 cases you will be dead.
I'm writing this (maybe obvious for someone) post to tell - don't hesitate to enter HAV! If your driver is skilled enough and have both shield and armor repair you won't end up in first combat.
P.S.: Plus you get the chance to make score like 33/1 or even higher.

How many Eve players do you know jump out of their Nyx in lowsec space to clean their windshields with their pods.
