Hey there this is my first real feedback on this game and I will comment on certain issues and things that, in my opinion, should be improved, or are fine as they are. I will split the feedback in several subjects like controls, graphics and general annoyances, I will not discuss balance as I'm sure this will follow as soon as higher priority development is complete.
Controls
Stating here that this is a beta but until there is the option to freely adjust your controls these are things I think are annoying.
General
- The choosing wheel used in several menus and situations (e.g. switching weapons while holding R2, activating modules in vehicles holding R2, choosing fittings.. ) feels very unresponsive/unnatural and more often than not after trying to switch or activate something using the wheel method nothing happens and I end up having to redo the same action multiple times before it actually does what I want it to do. *suggested: while fitting you have plenty of time and this mechanism is fine to do the job,but in-game I'd rather see a arrow controlled wheel.
- In the NEOCOMM you are capable of navigating trough menus using the arrow keys - this is great! now; look at the communications screen and suddenly you have to use the left stick to navigate, which is, in my opinion, very annoying.
- Entering text feels very awkward having to press square to modify things rather than just pressing X and confirming the entire screen with the >start button.
Infantry
- Weapon switch on R2; it just does not feel natural, as stated above, the wheel is clumsy and the switching takes too much time, you are practically encouraged to not use more than 2 weapons. *suggested controls: melee to R2, change stance to R3 and switch weapon to Triangle. using the arrow keys ( or combinations if more than 4 modules - e.g. up arrow and left arrow gives you the upper left slot ) while holding triangle down in the weapon selection wheel. *When a weapon is selected in this manner you will directly switch to the weapon rather than having to hold the stick and let R2 go and.. and... I don't even know what I'm doing at that point.
LAV's and HAV's I'm putting these together because they share the same annoying problem.
- Driving using the left stick, really? In this department I suggest looking at basic driving controls in other games; *R2 to throttle *L2 to brake/reverse *Left stick steers left or right *Right stick looks around, or in the Tank driver's case: Aims _____________________________ *L1 remains zoom ( if applicable) *R1 remains shooting *Triangle once again module selection to fit in with the rest of the suggested changes I made *Switch seat would go to X, or Square
Drop ships and potentially other hovering vehicles
- First of all, ascending and descending should be more responsive - this should help with evasive movement for forge guns and whatnot.
- R2 should be become ascend, L2 descend, triangle once again module select while X should swap seats.
The bottom line
Here is that while some of the new additions opposed to standard shooters (the weapon wheel for example) CAN actually be great additions however in their current state, again; in my opinion, are more of an obstacle than a nice addition to the game. As for controls in general; I know you (the devs) are trying not to make this another dime a dozen, but why would you differ from the controls of regular games (including driving games) so much, as obviously they developed that way because they are considered most comfortable. Another point being that myself as casual gamer ( I actually don't play a lot of FPS's on the PS3) can quickly rage when controls are working against me rather than with me.
Plateau map design
- Some area's are extremely hard to reach, for example the 5-6 high towers on the side of the map. now and then someone manages to get up there and drop uplinks. I'd rather like to see some consistency here; either make ALL parts of the map that are not out of the playing area accessible with relative ease ( cough, drop ship, cough ) or don't make them accessible at all. This should also help towards my point of complaint nr. 2.
- Spawn kills, spawn kills everywhere. But in all seriousness - spawns, or at least the main base one, should not make players spawn in the same spot relatively together. Spawn killing in it's current state is just too easy because of the lack of 'backup' spawn spots. And a game were you are waiting 10 seconds while burning another 20k ISK just to get shot before your screen loaded is NOT A FUN GAME.
- This doesn't just apply to this map; but physics - see the graphics department.
Graphics
- It has been mentioned before - different weapon models. Even if all the assault rifles currently are Gallente they should not look all the same with the exception of a slightly different shade of color. e.g. a weapon that works like the tactical AR in it's current state should look more like a mix of a sniper and AR rather than just another AR.
-Physics, and with this I mean destruction. I'm not going to ask for battlefield-esque destruction, no. But every time I decide to call in a tension to fool around with and I get stopped by a fricking lamp post I get so depressed the stress makes me live a day shorter. So please, for the sake of my health, don't put up lampposts or other random objects near roads, or make them destructible.
These are the main things I can think of that haunted my dreams last night. again, everything stated here is my own opinion and should you thing to be able to convince me not think this way or have a better suggestion yourself: post below this line. |

i can get behind this
i absolutly hate the control system when driving the R2 wheel and the steering/accelarator/brake all on the left stick
same goes for infantry this R2 wheel menu is a pain
dont mind the dropship controls but again hate the r2 wheel menu
i did post another thread some where about controls and the ability to configure the controls how i like or at least impliment more than 1 veriation of controls every game out there no matter the console
pc for that matter offers multiple choice for control system but in this case i can stick the controls to whatever i want doubt its posible to have full customizaton of the controls on ps3 but a veriation would be welcomed and im not talking kb/m |

I've gotta disagree with the different gun models. By having them all be the same model, they can introduce a multitude of different variants without increasing the memory load on the PS3, which is often a problem for games of this size. I'd rather have more options and variants than pretty looking models. |

Its necessary to drive with the left stick because the move controller replaces the right stick. It would be stupid to trottle/brake with the move controller and steer with the stick. |

The R2 menu is very annoying indeed. There are two issues:
1. The item you want to select needs to be highlighted while you let go of R2. That's a problem because as soon as you let go of R2 the stick changes it's function back to looking. That way either you make sure you selected properly but have your view changed a bit after letting go of R2 or you make sure your view stay where it is but often miss the selection.
Fix: Make the highlight stay at the last item even when the R-stick is back to the center. If the user wants to keep his current weapon due to a change of mind he should re-highlight his current weapon before leaving the menu.
2. The arrangement of items on the R2 wheel is, well, sub-optimal. I have a loadout with three items (light & side weapon + 1 equipment), a typical assault loadout that's probably found rather often. The three items take up about 120 degrees of the R2 menu and the other 240 degrees are empty. That way I have to be needlessly precise in my selection which of course increases the time it takes to change weapons and also increases the fail-rate.
Fix: Rearrange the selectable items to always take up as much space as possible. Even if a prototype logistics suit has four slots but only two filled the R2-menu should adapt to use the available space ideally.
Verdict: I can accept a functional but not-so-fancy selection menu, since it's only on screen 0.25% of the play-time. But a fancy but broken menu is ... not fun. |

Wow, that's probably the first plausible explanation I've heard about why the vehicle controls are so wonky. |
