I'm trying to, but not only is it hard to spec for LAVs and not get owned by other infantry, but they just don't seem to be very useful other than quickly getting around the battlefield- so long as it's open- and the occasional crush.
I recall people talking about the usefulness of the Logi LAVs, but honestly, I'm not very interested in following a HAV around the entire match. Has anybody gotten good at using the LAV offensively?
Honestly, as an HAV driver i love the super rare LAV driver who has reps and doesnt just drive straight into enemy fire..... especially when they do their job and use that rep.... I drive an armor tank.......thousands of points of armor.......LOTS of points for reps.....yet people dont figure that out |

But what I really find it great for is to hunt down solo players or small groups. I roll up on them, they think its a militia LAV and start firing at it, I hop out with my HMG and mow them down. I then hop back in and find the next poor merc to be away from the pack and do the same, if I watch out for tanks I can make my LAV last most of the game, except for an accidental head on with any tank at speed that is instant death for some reason.
yeah i love careless LAV drivers. not only because they usually come straight to me so i dont have to find them, but because they think zig zagging in front of me is somehow gonna make me miss.
Cant tell you how often they try and juke me, only to realize i simply started to drive forward, hitting their LAV with my tank and blowing them up....

whether or not it is, you need to get out of that kind of thinking and fast, or else your gonna lose a lot of money.
Full on Friendly fire is a green light for this game, big time. Just hasnt been implemented yet. |

HowDidThatTaste wrote:And you are an expert? Be careful the assumptions you make about people. I have been playing with friendly fire for many many hours of gaming. And please don't tell me what kind of thinking to have. And don't worry about me I have plenty of isk to use anyway way I want. Don't you represent a clan that is recruiting?
bud im sorry if i offended you in any way, definitely was not the intention.
was simply stating that friendly fire was going to be put in since you were asking if blowing up on contact with a friendly tank was a bug. My thought process was, "Oh, he might not know friendly fire is coming since he was asking about friendly collisions. Ima save this guy some monies."
and yes, i do belong to a corp, but i havent been elected as an officer or anything as of right now so my opinions, while they may be shared by many of my corp mates, certainly should not be taken as the official stance for my corp.
If you are interested in learning more about my corp, please check out the STB Recruitment Thread. Theres a lot of good stuff in there dude, including a tentative insurance policy for members and you can talk with our CEO about the profit sharing/payment systems and such. Good group of guys and we have lots of great players. |

Rhadiem wrote:I'll get serious about LAV's when they have a model with a roof.
I've maxed out the tank in them, I've squeezed a Mobile CRU in them, put prototype small launchers on them with damage mods, but in the end when you can be sniped out of your 100k++ LAV by a lucky AR shot, it doesn't matter how many hitpoints or capabilities it has.
The assault buggies are fun to zoom around on and run-n-gun with a gunner, but there's no way I'll follow a tank into a hotzone with one trying to play logistics. I'd be more likely to do it as a ground-skating Eryx pilot than in an LAV.
That said, I see the potential and do recognize them as great ways of getting a bunch of fatties to an objective quickly. But that doesn't require more than a free militia vehicle.
LAV's don't reward tanking, piloting and turret skills nearly as much as Dropships or HAV's do.
Hopefully that will change in upcoming models. Give me an armored Hummvee or a Stryker and I'll be a big LAV fan.
Heck, a protective roof for the driver would make me happy.
The simple problem with your argument is that militia vehicles are not going to stay. There will be no free vehicles. |

Rhadiem wrote:That's fine, substitute cheapest possible LAV to train and fit for a Militia vehicle. ;) I don't see how it affects much. LAV's are still too exposed to for most people to invest real isk and SP into. I'm open to hear arguments against this though.
First of all, the maps will be about 5 times bigger than the current skirmish map at least. In order to effectively move players around, especially when teams are bigger, dropships and lav's will be needed.
Not everyone will have AV fittings, since AV items are being reworked and not everyone playing will be beta testers who are inherently interested in the game and will have sp points pumped into all kinds of stuff, meaning LAV's wont pop immediately. In a world where EVERYONE has proto swarms and proto forges cause there are 5 tanks a round, LAV's have a rough time.
Corporations who care about winning will effectively use every asset they can get a hold of.
Having a fireteam of three or four logi's who can haul ass across the map in a logi LAV for reps or resupplying for anyone that calls on a mic is a great benefit to a team. Dropships wont be in that type of role, sinc ethey will be dropping off squads at objectives and moving them around with fire support.
fair enough? |

In competitive corp play, i see dropships being too busy will getting fireteams on objectives to go around doing logi stuff. But then it can go either way cause you can use a logi dropship. It really just depends on how a team wants to use an asset.
Having a logi LAV filled with logi suits is easy, just get out, drop a nanohive, and got out of there. |

Having a logi LAV filled with logi suits is easy, just get out, drop a nanohive, and got out of there. I can see this if dropships are really prohibitively expensive, but I regularly do this with my dropship in my type 2 scout suit w/ uplinks and nanos, and it lets me put uplinks at places that infantry can't easily get to. The platform by C for example. But, like you said, it's really up to the pilot/driver and the corp on how they want to do things. i'm still going to request more passenger and especially pilot protection for an added LAV vehicle. ;) LAV's are good.. just need some love to be really practical.
it all depends on the other team as well. If they got a lot of swarmers, then go LAV. if they have a lot of ground forces, go dropship. If your corp is competent, they'll probably have both.
very situational. Both will be good as long as the pilot is good. |
