I've heard whispers of, when Dust launches, weapon crafting that will be available both of the Dust side of things as well as EvE. I'm curious as to how this will work? Will the gun models (as well as vehicles, dropsuits, etc) be the same and just have different attributes? I haven't dove too far into the EvE world just yet, so I was just wondering.
Also, I wasn't entirely sure where to post this question, so if it's out of place, I apologize. |

I don't know exactly, but since much of dusts non-fps mechanics are based on eve it is likely that manufacturing will be similar.
Devs are already calling the stuff we buy on the market BPO (blue print originals - perm items) and BPC (blue print copies - limited runs). And Ive noticed a salvage section at the end of battles - perhaps we will be able to gather broken materials and "repair" them back to working order. It is also likely that we will either use planetary resources to construct stuff too, either by purchasing it from eve players or gathering it ourselves. |

Crafting and industry are probably part of Dust's vision. But i wouldnt count on having this function available at launch.
I think EVE will deal with building stuff and taking control of the player owned market at first. And it may not be at launch either. |

More than likely the districts we will control will provide the resources it harvests (much like PI colonies in Eve) for us to then use as either bargaining chips when negotiating with Eve corps or to sell on the open market as commodity traders profit from the margins they find. Even if only the Eve corps are given the privilege of manufacturing Dust weapons, mods, etc., there will be Dust corps who will have the privilege of holding the bargaining chips. |

From what the DEVs have been saying, DUST and EVE will be using the same market. And if you notice at the end of a battle, there is a "Loot" section there. So we will be able to scanvenge "something" from the battle, probably to use in crafting. So there will be some sort of crafting system, just how it works, only CCP knows right now. |

Taking your question a little bit differently...
I don't believe in EVE crafters can change capabilities of things. They can't, for example, invent an assault rifle that has a higher rate of fire. What they can do is "invent" a blueprint copy that has better capabilities than a "lower level" blueprint.
CCP, however, specifies the characteristics of the things the higher level blueprint copy produces. It all starts out with blueprint originals that are seeded in the community through sales from NPCs or through NPC drops in combat, or from awards for performance of some kind... lots of different mechanisms.
Once a player has a blueprint original (unlimited manufacturing runs) or a a blueprint copy (limited runs) they can gather up resources and skills and through them all into a factory (either NPC or player owned) and after a while out pops the thing being built which can be put on the market. As another poster suggested, there is no reason all the materials and factories and research facilities could not exist on a planet (or planets) though moving them from planet to planet could be an issue.
I'm not in the head of the DEVs but I suspect the limitation on characteristics is their way of manging balance so that the players can't just play the long odds and eventually create a super-thing that is unstoppable. Though I suppose there is no reason they could not change that for DUST. |

Crafting is a standard term used across rpg's. In EVE we call it manufacturing.
I'm not sure if we will be able to make the same things. It depends on what all they will new to make it. But I would imagine that since we will be hanging out on a station, we could get acess to manufacturing slots and materials. |
