They won't be on because CCP will be discussing data obtained from the last weekend amongst themselves. They monitor the game and collect data, not relying solely on people to tell them bugs.
They wouldn't be able to do this if the servers were on all week - they'd have no time to discuss and analyse data. This data does help fixing balance issues. |

Haha, if only. CCP is one of the only games companies who actively try to look out for their employees. You often hear of employees working for 100-120 hours a week to hit a deadline. Frankly, I'd prefer CCP take their time about analysing data and developing the game, so that we can have a decent relationship with our devs instead of them being half dead all the time. |

Valve frequently tells employees to take a holiday, as they're working too hard. Granted, they're known for valve time, but they're also known for their customer and employee love. People want to work for them simply because they realise their employees are human too. Same with Google.
There are horror stories out there of a small smartphone games company, forcing a team of four or so into consecutive 120 hour weeks just to get a game released.
I'd much prefer to buy, and play, a game from a company who care more for their employees than for profits. |

It's a well known corporate strategy. I'd be happy with a full week of the servers being up, but on the other hand, I can understand why they have the servers up for weekends only.
Edit: @Chris - Likely, but they won't have had time to analyse it fully. For example, it'll be a breakdown of types of damage, e.g. 20% AR, 15% small missile turret, 10% grenades, etc. For the 1 million kill weekend, there will have been over 400 million points of damage dealt to dropsuits alone. It'll also help to analyse trends of weapons and vehicles used, where and when uplinks and nanohives are used...
Lots and lots of data to analyse. Not sure they can do it all in one day, before they have to analyse the next set.
Not that they do this, but it's probable they do. Most games companies with an online component record a lot of data from online matches. |

Two things. CCP aren't rolling out hotfixes for DUST, as they have to push the updates through the Sony servers to do so. That takes time on Sony's part to test, so it's much more sensible to push a new build through every couple of months.
Also, half an hour to grab data each downtime. On Monday, after the data is grabbed, they organise it into days, types, etc. Tuesday, they analyse it in teams, breaking the data down into anti-infantry, anti-vehicle, anti-building, etc. Wednesday, they get together and discuss it, suggesting any possibly changes, balance issues, etc.
Again, not saying that this is what happens, but a day for data analysis and a day for a meeting is reasonable. If you add an extra day to the testing time, it will take that much longer to do all of the analysis.
Edit: Also, the merc pack was made so that you can have extra stuff on release, not so you can have exclusive access to the beta. The access was a bonus. You can just play Slay every week and get a weekend beta key from that. |
