I wasn't planning on posting anything from this past weekend because I didn't run into anything totally game-breaking, but was encouraged to do so, so here we go.
After getting the email this weekend, I was pretty excited to jump into the game. Since Dust was announced, I was looking forward to having something you could just jump into for a few games, and gain enough skill points, and isk to make a decent living as a merc. That being said, Some things that bothered me this weekend, and in no particular order are these:
Gaining skill points and isk. I realize this is a pretty self-evident and straight forward system. You gain isk and sp after completing a match, awesome. What I think might be helpful would be if it was explained what modified how much you got after a match in a tutorial window, such as the ones that pop up when you open something such as the market for the first time. I noticed that in the two different game types, rewards were very different, and in a game oriented around skills and such, knowing some of that info would be helpful. Maybe this is planned, but just my two cents on that subject.
My second gripe that I have also seen around the forums, is font size. I don't feel I need to elaborate on this subject so much due to seeing it around and the response in those threads, but I do think the font issue should be addressed if possible, especially kill-text. That was the most difficult to read.
Another small bit of feedback. I know in Eve captain's quarters you cannot run or anything while there, but in a console oriented shooter where we spend most of our time running, is that a possibility to have? Or too difficult since it might share features with the code from Eve and stations. This feels small to me, and like it's not that big of a deal, but maybe it's something along the lines of jumping in other games while you're idle.
My biggest issue with what I saw this weekend might also be in the works to be changed as well. Tutorials. The dropsuit system along with the skills is great, and I love the idea behind it. But I found myself being lost quite a bit. My best example of this is that I really want to play a logistics suit. There are no tutorials as to what you need to do to play as a logistics suit, and also no option when creating a character to even specialize in logistics itself. I am sure there are people out there who enjoy to play support, and heal instead of just worrying about K/D, but I feel like figuring out how to do so without any prior knowledge, or somebody teaching you how who has learned before, will be quite difficult. Has there been any word about selections at character creation to favor somebody with a logistics play style in mind? Or are you better off just choosing assault and going with what you're given there? Also, maybe have some overview of what each suit does apart from during character creation that includes the logistics suit and how to play? Nanohives, repair guns, everything, it's a very daunting thing to somebody who does not understand how it all works (myself included), and I think it would benefit people who play to know how to do so, even if it is just a small amount of knowledge before the game starts.
That's all I have for now. I would love to hear what some other people think, instead of just ranting off about stuff I might not have been exposed to enough in the small amount of time I got to play over the weekend. |
