Bane Pistol
Magnum Rail Pistol -9 "Bane"
As with all Caldari, the Magnum Pistol is top notch when it comes to effiency. Able to bring down hostile dropsuits in very few shots conserves ammo saving state security forces a significant amount of expenditures
Mastering the "Bane" Pistol is very simple as its easy to aim and it fires without recoil. The major drawbacks is the charge up time before it fires, this trait alone makes those unfamilar with its operation difficult to use and time for the firing. The ammunition is specially crafted for anti-dropsuit use and thus are extremly large sized and complex for a pistol making it difficult to resupply it quickly when using nano assisting devices
Once the trigger is pulled the pistol aligns its relays into position and chambers the round into the dynamo. This process does two things, first it begins to slag the round's metal core into a molten mass by subjecting it to stressful amounts of magnetic forces. Then it energizes the penetrator warhead which functions as the anchor for the magentic bottle for the molten material and assists in penetration of armored targets by performing a last microsecond burn into the target triggered by magnetic fields of most armor systems. This delay between trigger pull and firing is anywhere from 1 to 2 seconds but its accompanied by a satisfying charge noise, glow, and if it connects usually a kill
After firing and the penetrator head has impacted, the molten slag of the round's core is forced though the penator head shredding the slag into thosands of deadly molten projectiles on the other side of the impacted defense layer. Because the technology is a downsized and simplified rocket assisted railgun, several normally considered safety features where sacrificed to make it man portable. Such as the inability to cancel charge once triggered and containment of metal shards that fall outside the field during cycling known as scatter. The back blast which is evenly distributed thoughout the gap between the pistol's two amatures can also cause serious injury and stresses the pistol out but this does result in the pistol's recoiless operation useful in zero gravity envrionments
Because majority of the rail system is in the upper receiver of the weapon its ammo and energy has to be bottom fed though the handle and has a slower reload time in comparison to other top loading pistols
The Magnum offers some of the slowest refire rates out of all New Eden's pistols but its stopping ability is without a question undisputed, because of this it was nicknamed the Bane Pistol
Characteristics Rounds Per Minute: 20-30 Range: Accurate Medium Distance, Degrading accuracy at longer distances Damage: Very High Anti-infantry, Very Low Damage to Shields, Higher Damage to Armor Charge Time: 1-2 seconds Magazine Size : 5 shots Reserve: 2 Magazines Resupply Rate Penalty Ammo: Iron Dart with Scram Penetrators Fitting : Highest of all side arms Recoil : Not notable in gravity envrionments, minimal in zero gravity Report: Charge noise is not subtle for covert operations. Bark of the gun sounds like a baby forge gun going off. The impact noise is a loud pop resulting from the last second burn of penetrator head
Damage Per Shot: 400 Appox Dps in a minute time span: 210 Total Action time 38 Seconds
Vs Scrambler Damage Per Shot : 70 Appox Dps in a minute time span. 134 Total Action time 22 Seconds
Variants Assault - Fully automatic, shoter charge time, extended magazine, trigger holding autocharges next shot, less damage Standard - Single Shot per charge Marksman - Has scope and extended range, refire rate much slower and fewer rounds in magazine to account for additional tarvel burn fuel
Magnum Basic Skill 5% Reduction in Charge Rate per level. (0.25 - 0.5 Seconds Off)
Magnum Profiency 2% Additional Damage per level
Designer's Notes: Basically I took the idea of how would a Dust Bunny answer the call of needing a hand gun big enough to put a heavy down. What else than to use an idea that some current anti-vehicle warheads do. Which is to basically burn a hole though the armor and shove alot of metal though it with alot of explosive force.
Well making a micro RPG would seem very caldari or minmatarish I decided to forgo the caldari route in the design. While the idea of a mircomissile launcher sounds awsome it would just seem out of place and a wee bit silly. So I had to turn to the parital railgun inspiration came from. Nomrally railguns dont need penetration aids and as pointed out the sniper rifle was the 'smalles' railgun. Thus a penetator was made to assist the underpowered 'railgun' acheive max damage. This solved two problems hybridizing the pistol into a non pure rail.
As for recoil the intention is for future profing it for zero gravity envrionments and to help keep the aim bit cleaner between first and followup shots as the gun will be difficult to use.
As for attributes its a magnum, of course its going to hurt like hell if you get hit by it, but I also wanted to add a challenge in its operation the pre-charge time makes it so. Its extremly odd feeling to pull trigger and having to wait for the bullet to pop out and can throw alot of players off but those that get used to that will get rewarded with a good solid damage dealing pistol.
I expect on average user can down 1 person per reload, proficent players can probably manage 2-3 per reload.
As for design Inspiration I barrowed a bit of one caldari ship, the halo magnum, RPG-7 and Caldari War Philosphy |

Belive it or not this is how an RPG the russians makes works. The copper nose penetrator blows a small hole in which the rest of its is forced into, on last generation tanks it would kill the entire crew compartment and this 50$ rocket almost made tanks extinct. |

Yeah the first of these counters was sand in which the copper slag just get stuck in it. then reactive armor which counter explodes the penetrator nose back out, and the new stuff just outright shrugs it off. |

Not really, RPG-7 uses a round called HEAT-High explosive anti-tank. The round has a cone shaped piece of copper that is surrounded by high explosive. On impact the explosive goes off, this turns the copper into a small pencil thin stream of plasma traveling at around mach 25. That's what goes through the armor.
Bleh different translations I guess. None the less the Bane Functions on that concept and just basically pistolizes RPGs :P to bad the current tanks now would sneeze this off. |

Yes I drew this, if you play eve you may know my more annoying version of myself, Nova Fox, the semi-eve famous shipyard owner. This would be the second gun I fan designed for Dust 514 though.
I had another gun almost done today but fate consired with the electric compnay and surged my computer off right before I got to coloring.
Bleh the Minmatar Recoiless Rifle will have to wait another day then. |

Some labs did tests with highspeed x-rays and other instrumentation to me-¦sure the properties of the metal jet while it was penetrating. Turned out the jets temperature was under the melting point and was still technically a solid, the forced are so extreme at the speed it impacts at the liner and armour can be treated as liquid when doing calculations. If I remember correctly the speed of the tip was around 10,000m/s with most of the mass in the slower base of the jet, the metal stretches as it travels from the speed differential, this breaks the jet up if given enough time. So the jet becomes lots of metal bits bouncing around in tank instead of making hole in other side. The forge gun and rail gun rounds would be similar, but a uniform speed.
The sniper rifles were called marvels of miniaturization for a rail gun. Maybe if it was a miniature solid fuel scram jet slug, this would explain the low ammo count, incorporate both Caldari tech specialties, and keep consistent with sniper description since it is not a pure rail gun. Rail just boosts scram jet to operating speed, they don't work at low speed, scram jet bring slug to speeds a larger rail gun like the sniper would do with the rail alone.
I think the range should be longer then scrambler instead of shorter with a lower damage per second then the scrambler. Still more damage per shot though. This would keep the tech types consistent with EvE. The rail guns were longer range then both lasers and scramblers, they had the lowest damage per second but still good damage per hit do to low rof.
Thanks for the suggestion rethinking the ammo a short bit.
Edit.
Okay done, turned the penetrator into a microwarhead. |

Okay Adjusted traits a bit and added skill bonuses. Change how the ammo works after getting educated a bit. Added marksman variant which is a 'sportier' version of the gun good for picking off people afar.
Remember this pistol has one more drastic drawback over any other nomral gun which is the delay between trigger pull and fire. This would throw alot of people off and also opens you to attack as well during that precious charge time.
In situations where two assaults one armed with a duvolle assault rifle and the other ishkone magnum where to go head to head duvolle would win provided the ishkone magnum didnt make a head shot. Cerodon would possibly lose due to lower ROF.
Also going back to change all references to the bane pistol into a magnum since that was the major design angle behind it. A dust 514 ified magnum. |

Laheon wrote:A couple of things... This is millenia in the future. Yes, all the races fell back to the stone age before rising up again, but their tech is still higher than anything we can see today. We can assume that since tank armor can withstand railguns and bursts of plasma, that the armor on them is a lot more advanced than we can see today. It wouldn't be a huge leap from there to assume that dropsuits have a lighter variant of that technology, and, so, any weapons based on current (outdated by DUST's standards) tech would be ineffective.
Aaand... I think scrambler pistols already fill that role. Low magazine, heavy hitting. If I could actually aim a scrambler pistol, I'd use it all the time, since it hits very hard. The thing about the charge-up time will make people not want to use it. If you charge up, and miss, you have to suffer through another charge period, which is fairly useless in a sidearm.
Projectile weapons such as the SMG and HMG still seemingly hit hard enough to threaten every other bit of tech.
The scrambler pistol is a bit of a heavy hitter but the magazine size is almost standard or well above standard for a heavy caliber weapon.
The charge up time is a way of offsetting the magnum's a bit higher damage and means of way to reward for its akward operation. at skill level 5 charge up is 0.75 to 1.5 seconds. This also makes the gun a bit more unique out of the many other guns out there.
I imagine that this gun's heaviest hitting variant and level with complex damage mods + skills can probably one shot most damage fitted assaults |

Laheon wrote:Iron Wolf - a point I also didn't make that the charge up weapons in this game have AoE. Forge gun does small AOE damage, and the swarm launcher (lock on time) does a little bit of splash too.
Fact is that when charging a weapon, by the time the weapon's charged, the target will have shifted place. More often than not, you'll try to compensate for the movement, and either over or under compensate. Most of the time you'll miss, and die.
Good idea, but I can't see it being implemented in its current form.
Mostly because the more I see of user created weapons (as in TF2 and Skyrim), the more I see that they are hugely OP.
Which is why if I wanted a gun that had a higher damage than a scrambler I had to make it 'difficult' to use to reward those willing to deal with its downsides also the charge animation would be a bit more visible from afar giving a fair warning if the hostile is attentive.
I have two more pistols but they have better dps or comparable damage with other drawbacks.
Also I have a large rapid fire anti-vehicle weapon in the works too. |

Blocky handles dont work so well. Let me get done with the gallente and minmatar pistols and you can make the call then.
The Gallente Plasma Rifle is oddly very ungallente in design philosphy its very blockly and more ar-15 looking than scifi ish. |

Sounds a little better but the damage seems a bit high how does around 400 sound since it's a sidearm that every one can carry and a scope on it would replace sniper rifles
Marksman variant is a standoff range scope zoom is a wee bit shorter than assault rifle, also has probably the longest charge rate and lowest ROF out of all of the variants. This is also trying to take into account that weapons have ranges a problem currently on the current build now.
At 400 damage sounds 'fair' if not albit too powerful, At that much damage it may be better possible to adjust the charge time than the damage as a balance factor.
Overall at 400 damage a shot with 4 second reload time 2 second delay between firings and 5 round magazines means a full reup cycle is every 14 seconds with only 2 reloads thats 38 seconds of action
400x15/60
Makes it 100 dps with no resupply Vs the scrambler's 123 dps.
So at 400 damage the weapon is albit 'weak' in overall dps but its the pershot that hurts a hell lot. |

Okay worked the math a bit better and consistent, I dont know how socal got his dps numbers (then again im not looking at the game) but I generated max potential damage.
Damage Per Shot: 400 Appox Dps in a minute time span: 210 Total Action time 38 Seconds 2 Seconds per shot*15) + 4 seconds per reload*2 Total Damage without respply: 8000
Vs Scrambler Damage Per Shot : 70 Appox Dps in a minute time span. 134 Total Action time 22 Seconds Total Damage without Resupply : 3360
Okay overall numbers provided you're shooting a tank and not missing. At 400 damage the magnum is almost twice as powerful as the scrambler but almost at half the speed to empty out. Not sure if they should be that starkly apart. Mind you that this is taking into account with no skills added.
At 400 damage I have a gut feeling thats overkill against most suits. I want at least two shot a badly fitted heavy milita with base skills. |
