Here are my feedback from my playtime this weekend. It's my opinion, and I know that not everyone will agree with everything I say. I also know that some things I will say are being said elsewhere and I do not want to add more topics on the subject. I want to simply make my feedback on the experience I had. Also, I may do some not so great choice of word, but since I'm a french Canadian you will excuse me
The UI
- I find the UI well done, some getting used to is necessary but once you understand the concept, it's easy to get to the place you need. But once you learn to use the "Netcom" interface, you won't use the useable items in the "Mercenary Dorm" (I don't recall what it's called)
For the combat UI, I love it. Not much to say, it's hard to reinvent the wheel and the way the controller is used for that UI is great.
Charracter
- The creation is what we are used with EvE online. A little more info on the skill you get with that charracter at the creation would be a great thing to add.
- As far as I can see, the skills are great, much like EvE, but for now its a little useless for the vehicules and dropships. Since anyone can get one and got with the one you requisitioned there are no need for them (unless you want to fit one yourself, but then again you can have someone else fly off with it. I suppose and hope that in the future you will need the skills to pilot a vehicule or ships.
Gameplay
- The gameplay was quite fluid, almost no lags. I played 99% of my games on the objective map. I found the ambush map uninteresting since I am not fan of "free for all" gameplay.
- Targeting was not quite intuitive, had some frustration of not being able to hit my target just in front of me just because I moved my stick a little too much. I know it's an issue, but I also know that some played use PS Move and there will be KB&M in the release of Dust514. In my opinion those people have an edge on those who use the controler, as they have more accuracy than other. I hope that it will be looked upon and adjustment will be made.
- I used the dropship a lot during my games and I love them! Fun to fly and once you get good people on the turrets, it can be quite devastating. I saw and used a tactic with the dropship that consist in crushing footsoldiers with it: I find that a realy cheap way to earn XP since its a one shot kill. I saw some posts on that and I can understand the points of both sides, but I realy think it should not be a full XP kill. The propositions I saw where great and I support two in perticular: 1- Give the dropship a simple weapon to use when no one is in it 2- Give greater reward to the pilot if someone kill while onboard.
For the rest, I realy loved my experience and look foward to what will be added to the game. |

Good feedback in general, well said. Only one thing I'm going to point to in particular here (not negatively):
Ronar Gilbet wrote:- Targeting was not quite intuitive, had some frustration of not being able to hit my target just in front of me just because I moved my stick a little too much. I know it's an issue, but I also know that some played use PS Move and there will be KB&M in the release of Dust514. In my opinion those people have an edge on those who use the controler, as they have more accuracy than other. I hope that it will be looked upon and adjustment will be made. This may be partly due to the known issues with hit detection - it can look like you hit the target, but they'll take no damage. CCP are working on this, and have already improved it noticeably.
Also, there's the fact that the game doesn't use a hitscan system, meaning that your shots have travel time, and that means you have to "lead" your targets - aim where they WILL be, not necessarily where they are right now. Projectile speed is another point where a lot of people feel this needs tweaking, so hopefully CCP feel the same.
And finally, a major issue is the difficulty of precise aim where you want to turn short distances - you CAN improve this by turning down the sensitivity, but a major and oft-repeated problem is the matter of DUST having a very large "deadzone" where you can move the stick a small distance with NO effect - it needs to be reduced significantly (if not removed), because a large deadzone means you CAN'T get precision aim. This is worst for long-range shooting, particularly with sniper weapons, but it's problematic at all ranges with all weapons at the level CCP currently have. |

Good feedback. I completely agree with the need for a pilot controlled weapon on the dropship class vehicle. |

Dropships shouldn't have pilot-controlled weapons. We should have GUNSHIPS for that, and fighters. Dropships are troop transports, and should be treated as such. |

I agree with you Garrett that the dropship is a troop carrier, but since CCP did not release another ship in the beta, we can only give feedback on what we can use. for the solutions I find that the two I posted are great and I am more in favor of the reward intensive. When I talked about a weapon, I meant one that is fixed and realy limited spread and does low damage, like a troop rifle.
For the targetting issue: You hit the nail on the head, I didn't know that it was something that big. I will keep that in mind once the next test is held, and maybe I will get better scores than 3/9 :P

Sometimes I feel the immersion and 'reality' of the game is broken when it comes to ships just landing on people:
a) why does it seem when the pilot 'crashes' seemingly full speed down on someone, the ship takes zero damage. --but if I even slightly skim a ground vehicle on an object going full speed other then a person it will probably blow up.
b) why can't I do quick button pressing to dodge out of the way when a ship is about to land on me? (pending full stamina) --alot of mmo games have been adding double tap directional pads that allow your character to completely dodge, but eating up all your stamina. I have liked this in every game that it has been implemented. Even with a huge penalty to stamina loss. --Jumping takes stamina, could we get a lunge roll that would take your full bar if used? I mean, we're the best soldiers in the universe and we can only strafe and jump.

I also agree with Garrett's hitting advice.
to expand on it some from my personal build -- Assault.
In Mid/Long range compensate for travel time and aim ahead of your target.
Try to predict all movements, and if you're for example running assault do your best to pre-aim your target at the head-area, most of the time they will run right into a headshot . You can also strafe 'with them' in the same direction they are in travel to basically be spot on the whole time, running with them, unless they randomly change directions :) ^----- this is extremely effective at running targets who are moving across an open area.
This takes some skill to master but just keep at it, and I can really only speak for assault rifle, and for my play style, which has been extremely fun for me when I beat the aiming curve. This is not a game for quitters :)

since my goal is to be a ship pilot, I focus in logistic dropsuit to repair and maintain the vehicule. So I think you strategy is good for the type of weapon I use, I will train to use that in the next test opening. |

I don't think you can, but you can always drop down and repair it. |
