Over the course of the last week something has become more apparent to me. It seems like some days your skills are not applied to your character. I played this morning and was getting gunned down with the greatest of ease by militia gear and even though i was shooting the hell out of the opposition with top tier weapons they just did not die. I'm not part of the l33t but I can hold my own in a 1 on 1, hell, even a 3 on 1 situation against players who are not maxxed out. Today just seemed 'off' for some reason. I was just wondering if any of you guys have experienced anything similar.

Doubtful. However hit detection is total garbage. I'm just getting fed up with things. Rather more depressing being in beta than I thought it would be. |

Skills are DEFINITELY being applied, and it's quite likely people are killing you with Militia gear by taking advantage of that fact. Militia AR in a noob's hands isn't going to hurt NEARLY as much as someone who's got Weaponry and AR Pro both up to level 5.
By the same standards, a Militia Heavy suit on a person who just picked the game up will be MUCH more fragile than the same fitting of the same suit when the wearer has Mechanics up to level 5. |

Hello Geordie!
And yes, I have the same experiences, one day I do really well, the next day, nothing has changed, but nothing seems to hit. |

I have good and bad days, but there is something odd. Some games I just eat up damage, and keep on rolling, even proto gear, judging from the amount of DPS I receive, other times I get mowed down with ease. My suspect is the armour hardeners, that sometimes their bonus aren't applied. |

Not only have I done the math, but I've also seen my girlfriend, in her third match of the beta, using a Militia SMG with no SPs applied to her SMG skills, in a Militia Assault suit, outshoot and outmanoeuvre a Prototype Assault user.
Skill > gear + SPs
And that's with her arm injured, too. |

Like I said whatever. I cba arguing gun skill with someone on 0.7 KDR. You just won't "get" it. I killed a Surya with a Sica 1vs1. Does that mean tank skills > Health, Damage, and regen? No. They don't. Just like in a gunfight. Double Hp, double damage means the board is stacked. Your saying it's not. That player skill is more likely to win a fight that someone with a little less skill but double your stats. Jog on. Yoy HAVEN'T done the Maths. |

That player skill is more likely to win a fight that someone with a little less skill but double your stats. Jog on. Yoy HAVEN'T done the Maths. A badly fit Surya with a bad driver can be killed by a competent player with a Militia Swarm Launcher and no tank, so I'm not surprised a decently fit Militia Tank would also do the job.
And yes, that is an argument in favour of skill being important. It doesn't prove that small amounts of skill outweigh large amounts of SP and ISK advantage, but it proves that skill makes more of a difference than the game's RPG elements.
Assuming similar skill levels, yes, the better passive skills - and to a lesser extent the better gear - will give an advantage. But as mentioned, that requires the assumption of similar skill levels, acknowledging that skill is a major factor as well.
And what a shame, my focus on support means I have a low K/D. That doesn't invalidate my ability to analyse game mechanics and stats and actually understand how the game works.
If I cared to do so, it would be possible for me to stop my current "nothing I have to pay more than once for" experiment, and change my playstyle from the current over-focus on support actions, and easily shift my K/D into the positive in a matter of less than a day, but I'm more interested in running support, and keeping track of my experiments, and LEARNING the background mechanics instead of exploiting the obvious elements of the game. K/D means nothing to me, and when DUST comes out, K/D won't mean victory. My approach to the game WILL mean victory, and that, in turn, will leave me a few dozen steps ahead of someone with your attitude.
When I played War for Cybertron, I had people telling me that I was the main reason my team won in TDM when I had 1 kill and 7 deaths. When I actually went for K/D, I never dropped below 2.0 even when I went PUG vs. a competitive clan. The only exception was when I tried playing as the class everyone still claims is OP, because I suck with "the best" gear in that game for no reason anyone I know can figure out. |

Snake, with 300k SP and militia fit, I've got no chance against you in the same gear with 22mil SP. We're about equal in gun game, you tend to have better awareness/positioning I lag harder :P Edit: I was actually really pissed while I had 2 mil SP and you had 8 that I couldn't touch you. 6mil vs 12mil was ok, but you still had mad regen abilities. From 8 mil up I felt you died just as fast as I did. |
