1. I'd like to add my voice to the chorus of those asking for a "training room." Every console game I can remember playing has guided you through the beginning moments by firstly dropping you in a "warm" zone rather than right in the middle of a heated battle. In this area, helpful suggestions such as: "You should be pushing button X right now to accomplish Y" flash on the screen to guide you in how to interact with your character and the environment. I know that it's "The EVE Way" to push new players off a cliff, but even in the PC game, there are tutorial missions to help you learn how to control your ship. And, I believe CCP is targeting the non-EVE player with this game, afterall.
2. I hope the graphics get A LOT BETTER--this is most certainly not up to CCP's standards.
3. I hope the finished game has a much broader scope--"Capture the Flag" over and over and over is going to get really boring very quickly.
4. I'd also like to add my voice to the chorus asking for the ability to remap the controller. I bought the PS3 just for this beta, so I don't have any experience with the way Sony does things, but as a long-time XboX-er, it seems really counterintuitive to me that the trigger doesn't fire the gun. Left trigger should aim and the right trigger should shoot, just as Gawd intended. hehe
5. Perhaps I'm doing it incorrectly, but the process of selecting different weapons while in combat is borked. Holding-down the button to bring-up the weapon selection arc should freeze the view. When I push the left stick up to select that weapon, my view goes totally vertical so that once I've selected the weapon I want, I'm looking straight up as though I'm lying on my back. Naturally, by the time I reorient myself and reselect my target, I'm dead.
6. The War Room lobby seems totally unnecessary. There's not enough time to do any of the things that the tutorial window suggests you should be doing and there doesn't seem to be any way to delay your deployment in order to accomplish them.
7. Also, the "suicide" function seems totally unnecessary. What possible purpose is to be served by you lying dead on the battlefield for an extra 10 seconds? Just respawn us more quickly.
8. What's with the box with the star in it in the upper right-hand corner? Does one start the game as a one-star general? No button press seems to activate it.
9. I'm not sure how CCP intends to monetize the game, but I certainly hope they remember the lessons of "The Jita Riots" and don't plan on "selling win" via the Aura scheme. Also, as mentioned elsewhere on this forum, I hope CCP finds a way to counter the @#!$&%* Goons funnelling ISKies to their Dust alts in a proxy war.
10. One of the fascinating things about EVE is that a couple of guys in cruisers can take down a BS if they're smart; brains and strategy has always been the counter to ISK and SPs in New Eden. I don't see that kind of balance here in Dust; victory goes to the guy with the fastest reflexes. That's not a knock on Dust or CCP; that's how the FPS genre works. I can therefore assume that CCP is going after a specific demographic with this game and that's NOT the traditional EVE player. Again, that's a valid choice and I'm not faulting CCP for wanting to expand their offerings. However, if indeed CCP wants to tempt the traditional, "silver-templed" EVE player, there needs to be more balance in this game ... a form of the "point and click" combat that EVE is famous for needs to be introduced. As a long-term EVE player (going on 7yrs), I've become accustomed to a certain level of depth in my game and--frankly--beyond the 20-30mins of run-around-and-shoot-things giggles that Dust offers, I could get bored quickly here. (See #3 above.) Getting back to my original point, it would be nice to have the opiton of teaming-up with specific other, similiarly-experienced players against other, similarly-experienced players rather than just being randomly tossed-in with a group for some vague and constantly-changing objective--make the experience meaningful.
11. It's interesting that there's a starmap in the game. It doesn't do anything, but it's interesting to note.
12. How do I stop that "auto save as draft" feature of these forums? The screen jumping every 3secs is REALLY annoying. |
