I was just reading this Article after looking up reduced heat microchips...
Basically this article says that chips in the Real World have already been developed that can potentially run off of body heat and kinetic motion.
Then I turned around and looked at the DUST Dropsuits... with their computer systems that draw massive amounts of energy off of the suit's Powergrid... Possibly this should now be changed to a Biogrid of some kind? |

Using bioelectric energy to operate a microchip that only does processing is one thing, that needs very little power behind it. Actually providing enough energy to move a full suit of highly advanced armour is quite another. It's possible our CPU is running on bioelectric power (hence why we HAVE a CPU rating without it costing any of our PG), but beyond that, WE NEED MOAR POWAH! ... or something. |

Remember that according to Eve Lore, once the first pioneers went through the worm-hole from Earth and it collapsed civilization pretty much reset itself. They could have taken completely different paths of technological superiority and it's shown in each race's unique combat style. Amarr use armor, and lasers, with heavy emphasis on tracking disruption and energy destabilization. On the other hand - Gallente use armor as well, but with hybrids and emphasis on reducing tracking speed/range and a higher reliability on automated drones.
This is thousands of years in the future after all four races pretty much went back to third world countries on their respective planets. |

Unfortunately, while it does say that, the lore seems to backstab itself right there. -It is Highly unlikely that there would not be at least one factory for producing computer chips or storing information of basic scientific facilities on every planet colonized. The information I'm discussing here is extremely basic, and would probably be one of the easiest-to-survive pieces of technology.
I mean think about it... what 20+ planets and NOBODY made a secret base to hide their research in, in case of a war of some kind? On Earth alone, there are HUNDREDS... Backup information storage facilities on how to make everything from cars to nuclear reactors.. both in digital and paper formats (in case of total power failure etc)
The only types of planets that would not have any technology on them when the original wormhole collapsed would have to be younger than say 20 years old, due to that being the time it would take to set up a decent electrical or city network up on a planet.
I've been trying to find the EVE origin history, but for some reason I cannot find it tonight.. bleh. I had found one in the EVElopedia or someplace that had been concise and detailed about dates and times of each event around the original Wormhole that led to Earth..
I'll probably try again tomorrow to find it... bleh. |

Didn't find the history segment, but I did find this about hyper-speed camera systems. It can record Light itself. (watching a bullet cut through an apple with this camera would take you over a year.)
1,000,000,000,000---frames every second.
At 6:25 in the video is where the interesting proposal starts. By bouncing light off of an object you can allow a computer to generate a "seen" object that is not in direct line of sight.

It's a lot more likely that they'll have transported materials for terraforming and basic survivability first. It will have been a lot more cost effective to bring materials through rather than start producing them on the colonised planets, at first.
I also read the lore as being that once the first 50 ships or so were through, the wormhole collapsed, leaving them no supply line. |

There's a fact that when the wormhole collapsed it destroyed the entire star system that held the first colonies of new eden . Those that were left were mostly still in the process of terraforming also as the wormhole didn't immediately collapse everything that was possible was immediately evacuated through the worm hole. This left the colonies mostly to survive on their own and rely on out side aid for as long it was uncertain whether the wormhole would actually collapse. Remember that companies cared nothing for the colonies they cared for making money and putting up a high tech factory far far away from the market is anything but profitable, micro chips can easily be shipped by the millions without the need of putting up a factory. So no high tech only rudimentary metal shops and so forth could be of use when you colonise a planet, especially when you have the option of having computers and such on demand with say weeks or maybe a months waiting time, even if it would had taken a year it wouldn't really be an issue if you have more then one piece of equipment on a colony.
So once the wormhole collapsed everything worked as usual for many years but at some point equipment starts to break down or your monthly shipments that you rely on stop coming at this point you will most likely start having civil unrest which will usually makes things only worse. Second problem is that people grow old and when each person dies of old age their knowledge is gone forever; with no institutional schools or universities available it means that knowledge is simply lost each time someone dies on accident, sickness or simply on old age. All you need is to look on a fall of Rome and how much knowledge was lost when it collapsed in the following centuries. People of new might have been the people of information age and flew star ships but when the whole world crumbles around you, your first idea isn't usually preserving knowledge. |

also, keep in mind that the majority of the knowledge holders joined the Jovian empire, and researched MUCH faster than their counterparts, maintaining a fairly stable Tech department after the collapse. The rest kept enough knowledge to ensure everyone wasn't stuck in the stone age. That's to all of you people discussing the lore.
Now, to the OP: They're actually powering a dropsuit, which creates an electromagnetic field around the user, which requires something along the lines of a fusion reactor. There are TONS of implants and chips, and implants in the human that provide the strength to actually lift these 1-2 tons of armor. Then you have the implants for extra stuff. Then you have a built in uplink to ships and stuff, so you can see the map, and a computer that can manage all of this data. All-in-all, it requires tons of energy. |
