Number one lost of my dropships are my own teams delivery vehicles and sometimes the enemies. Usually a hit with one will totally destroys my dropship even though I run a fully upgrade ship that can take a ton of damage. Sometimes the vehicle will hit you just as it starts to despawn and you dont even see it hitting you.
Also, something similar is that deliver vehicles will become entangled when two deliveries are close together, sometimes resulting in the bolas flipping, destroying themselves, killing friendlies on the ground, destroying the vehicle it is delivering or leaving the vehicle in a position that it can not be used. |

What did you expect from a bunch of RDVs that are operated by Windows XP? |

It looks like CCP has tried to deal with the stacking of vehicles by spacing their delivery. We can see more than one delivery in the air at once so I'm not sure how it works but I have not seen the vehicle stacking bug for a while.
With regard to dropping a vehicle on a friendly player, however, perhaps CCP could implement at mechanism where the delivery dropship will hover rather than drop a vehicle if there is a friendly under it. That solution would leave the delivery dropship and it's cargo vulnerable to enemy fire for a longer time. So after a few moments the delivery dropship could try to relocate to a clear spot.
I could see a mini-game of people running under dropships to keep them from landing. I don't know if that's good or bad.
Another suggestion, I believe it's been brought up before, is a smoke marker at the delivery location. And if you are dumb enough to stand in the smoke you get crushed -- tough.
All of this is complicated by fixed spawn locations as we have them now but that will change in time. Even if it doesn't the first solution, with relocation, makes a bit more sense. There's no reason it can't be combined with smoke as well, though.
Also an issue is vehicle stealing (and abandonment).
For that a I vote for the vehicle only being able to be piloted by the person that called it so long as they remain alive within a reasonable distance from the delivery location. |

1. I like that idea, though a "beacon" like a drop uplink, just different of course, might make more sense.
2. Or, as I had today, I had no gunenrs, and had someone shooting at me with a Swarm Launcher, so I shifted to a gunenrs seat and killed him, but before I could get back in the drivers seat, some I-D-I-O-T jumed in, and drove it straight at an enemy tank, without even bothering to engage the now cooled down armour repairer. Bye bye 270k ISK. |
